Hi all,Newbie here.

I started with symptoms of lower abdominal pain, food intolerances that seemed to appear overnight, bloating, nausea and diarrhea in Dec. Over the last 5 months I've had an endoscopy (normal) CT scan (normal) and a colonoscopy which presented normal on the visual check. Biopsies have however shown inflammation in both my colon and small intestine, but no diagnosis as yet.

Have been put on Pentasa 2g daily for 3 months to try and stabilise, am 3 weeks in with little affect so far. Hoping it starts to kick in soon.

It all started after a night out on the beer and a kebab, I've never been the same since. 😩

Hi, sorry this has happened to you. Hopefully you will get some clarity about what is going on and start to feel better soon. I'd lay off the alcohol, sugar, processed food etc until you get a clear idea of what is going on. Alcohol is one of the main reasons for a flare up i.e. people start to feel better go out to celebrate and then the cycle repeats.

Yes, the alcohol and sugars in beer are well known for causing inflammation of the gut, that's what the classic 'beer belly' is. I'd say keep off alcohol, sugar and processed food altogether. Ice cream, chocholate and many processed foods contain emulsifiers which are basically detergents which will strip the protective mucosal lining of the gut and gluten will open up the villi in the wall of the gut allowing small particles to enter and cause irritation and inflammation.

I would try a good yogurt containing a probiotic. It is by no means a cure but it has definitely helped with my Crohn’s disease and the resulting diarrhea and settled it down.
