On going investigation.

Hi , I'm going to try to keep this short as possible. I was diagnosed with IBS I'm 2006 and in 2015 my health became worse as I had an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in emergency surgery. I needed a blood transfusion as my tube ruptured. A couple of days later I was diagnosed with multiple PEs and a DVT in my leg. I was on warfarin for a full year. In 2 018 I had emergency surgery due to two bilateral incisional hernias obstructing my bowel. In 2019 I had a colonoscopy which showed a few TI ulcers but normal biospies. In 2021 I had my gallbladder out and I then began to have urgent and severe diarrohea with bloating. My calprotectin levels were 227 and then a repeat one was 435. I was referred to Gastroenterology.

Earlier this year I became very ill and a CT scan showed Terminal ileitis/Colitis . I was very lucky that I managed to get an appointment from Gastroenterology. My consultant put me forward for two tests, another colonoscopy and a capsule endoscopy. I have had the Colonoscopy and waiting for a patency pill test as there's a risk it may get stuck.

I'm confused because my colonoscopy was normal as were the biospies. My consultant did mention that if the colonoscopy was normal I would have the pill camera. The CT scan showed Colitis/terminal ileitis in April and my colonoscopy was in July. I'm really surprised the colonoscopy was normal. What could cause this?

If the capsule endoscopy comes back normal should Gastroenterology be investigating bam/bad?

I'm hoping the capsule endoscopy shows something. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

 Thank you for reading.

You have certainly had many different things to happen with your health. Colitis/terminal ileitis can be caused by various things. Good to see the pill cam is next. I suggest that you go to a medical university website & read about this, I think it will help ease your mind. Drs will sometimes order a calprotectin test, however, they are not used when trying to make a diagnosis as they are not all that reliable. I belong to another site & have seen people with them as high 3,000 & not have 1 symptom. Good luck with your pill cam & don't be afraid to ask the dr questions.

Thank you for replying. When I had the partial diagnosis of colitis/terminal ileitis I was happy because I was finally getting answers! The hospital did also mention on the report that the inflammation did looked similar to Crohn's or something similar and that was one of the reason why I was surprised with my colonoscopy results as I have symptoms. 🤷

The thing with me is that from 2006 I've had my stool samples studied and they've never been high (concluded IBS) up until 2021 as it has been in the hundreds. Let's see what the results of the capsule endoscopy shows. I will look in to a medical university website. Thank you.
