I cannot get hold of Ranitidine at present, I have taken it for 3 years in addition to Esomeprazole and after weeks without it I am now having some very uncomfortable indigestion and chest pain. I was h pylori positive 3 years ago but after eradication therapy had a negative result, but still with symptoms. A gastroscopy after 2 weeks with no acid suppression showed a duodenal ulcer, erosions and gastritis in the stomach . Healed on second scope, investigated for possible Crohn’s (UC proctitis diagnosed 9 years earlier). Both scopes were negative for h pylori. Conclusion - just to carry on with both Ranitidine and Esomeprazole.

I ended up in A&E with chest pain 12 days ago, but told it was probably caused by gastritis rather than a heart problem. Was advised to take a 2nd dose 40 mg Esomeprazole for 7 days. Helped, but within days of reverting to 1 dose had bouts of very painful indigestion and chest pain, despite being as careful as I can with what I eat and when I eat. GPs sympathetic but not very helpful. I’m concerned also that it might be impacting on otherwise well-controlled ulcerative colitis. Anyone else having problems? I don’t know whether there is a limit to how often I can up the Esomeprazole, and whether there are downsides to that. Some days I just seem to have pain and discomfort the length of my digestive system.
