UC - Ulcer or Inflammation?

I am very curious to know if for UC, the Ulcer come before the inflammation or if chronic inflammation leads to ulcers developing?

I would have to assume that the ulcer comes before the inflammation and that even when inflammation in remission that the ulcer remains. Will appreciate it if someone with more knowledge can maybe help clarify.

For my daughter she had inflammation that lead to ulcers, but the ulcers healed with treatment. I would think inflammation leads to ulcers, but you should get clarification from a G.I. doctor

Thank you for the reply. How long was the inflammation present before the ulcers were detected or visible?

It is hard to say. She was bleeding for 3 months before we had the colonoscopy. I had no idea how bad it was. She is a teen and was not forthcoming. During the colonoscopy there were ulcers. We have had many types of treatments for a year and a half, most worked to control the inflammation but side effects were very bad and had to change meds. She had a colonoscopy six months after we began treament and the ulcers had cleared up. With a last severe flare-up that caused 18+ bloody bms a day she had a colonoscopy 2 weeks after first symptoms and there were no ulcers though 2/3 of colon was severly inflammed. I hope this helps somewhat. We have a very good pediatric GI doctor who answers all of our questions. I hope you have a good doctor.

Thank you for the very detailed response.. I do appreciate it.

I have zero symptoms but inflammation which is confusing me and the GI doc.

Hope we get somewhere soon with my diagnosis.
