I just want to let you know guys what has happened to me I saw a private doctor( so I sold my earrings ) ahahh..... no comment
Anyway he prescribed prednisolone rectal foam ..
it was really a hard time to get it as it was. A private prescription..
Now I have pain on my left back and right back as well ..
But !- he said he believed I have crohns even though the diagnosis is chronic colitis ... but not UC .. ‘ simply ‘ just inflammation which I clearly feel ..
So a miracle has happened to me !!!- the prednisolone I think is working I still have the pain but the burning sensation is pretty much gone although there is /still a burning discomfort ..
It was my last hope I’m sure I have a problem with my bowels ( sorry to say it ) ...
Does anyone know that if the prednisolone worlds then Can I try other medications?
I mean I don’t mean asacol salofalk they did not help me and I have been told because it isn’t a gastro problem !!!
There you go it is !!- so like I said I was misdiagnosed many many time s!!!!!
I wish you all the best

Any meds used for Crohns and UC are prescription only, and most can only be prescribed by gastroenterologists. GP's can monitor you and do repeat prescriptions but initial prescribing is consultant/specialist prescribing only.
If steroids work they tend to stick with them as they are cheap and response time is pretty quick. However long use of steroids increase side effects massively
An antibiotic called metronidazole can be used longer term in colitis, but you cannot drink alcohol at all - not even a weak shandy!
Does the private Dr you saw also work in NHS (most do) as he can see you as an NHS patient if he gets your GP to refer you. If he doesn't he can refer you to an NHS dr for investigations
Hi, only in my experience, predisnolone is a steroid and will help you fast, it is unlikely to be your continued medication but as something to try and get thinks under control. I have Crohn’s and was prescribed azathioprine, in one respect it was a wonder drug, kept my Crohn’s at bay for 8 years, however there are side effects and unfortunately it played its part in me being diagnosed with bowel cancer in February of this year. I have had surgery and have been off azathioprine for 5 months and already I am getting mouth ulcers again. I can’t take it again (wouldn’t want to) as it is an immune suppressant drug and not allowed if you have cancer. If they offer you azathioprine, I have known it to put colitis patients into remission after a few years, just don’t take it long term. Best of luck 😀
