Just finished my first post grad run using the stepping stone podcast. Felt good and strong, running well, but does anyone else struggle with "running to the beat"?
I found if I tried to do as Laura suggested - concentrating on keeping pace with the beat of the music, it made me feel awkward and seemed to make it harder to run!
I don't mind it too much in Stepping Stone or Stamina, but struggle with the slow bits of Speed - the pace just feels unbearably slow, and the beat is remarkably hard to pick up...
I tried using one of the Podrunner podcasts the other day, having seen them recommended by someone else on here (can't remember who, but many thanks!) - although the music isn't to my taste, the beat is at least very easy to hear. And they have a huge range of podcasts, so you can choose the bpm that suits you. May be worth a look?
Yes, I found I was hop, skipping and jumping to try and get my feet in the right place at the right time I also found it very hard to actually hear the beat, especially on Speed. I've got the idea now so might try putting together my own play list using BPM or Jog.fm or one of the other sites. I hope you find a way round it - please share the info if you do!
I struggled with it the first time I did the speed session, but it does seem to be sligntly easier to hear now.. I then did the stamina one. WHAT BEAT? No idea.... completely out of time and ran slow when I should have been fast and fast when I should of been slow. Stupid pod cast. not playing anymore.
I'm relieved it's not just me! Maybe it's just more practice then.
Doesn't help that I can't stand the sort of music that's used in these podcasts so maybe I'd be better just listening to music I like and ignoring the beat thing.
It's not as if I'm ever planning to be an elite runner and as long as I can keep running and run a bit longer/further than at present, I'm not bothered if it's fast or slow!
