Haven't had a proper run in over two weeks (one attempted run abandoned) because of the pain in my left hip. Trying not to get too down about it, the GP referred me to xray (she doesn't like the clunking sound it makes, is worried it's bone rather than ligament) and has told me no running or yoga for at least 2 weeks until the results come back; I have to accept it and my Great North Run plans are on hold.
Counting my (many) blessings walking is okay and allowed so I have been doing plenty, although I enviously watch runners (they are suddenly everywhere!) as they shoot past, my legs keep speeding up the urge to join in is so ingrained now. Even in the xray waiting area there was a running magazine, teasing me with articles about Parkruns, PBs and training plans...
Forgive me my whining, it really is nothing, a good friend begins chemo next week; even if I never run again I would have nothing to moan about in comparison. So onwards if not upwards, focus on the positives and I will continue to cheer myself by reading about the many achievements on the blogs. Well done all you 5x50 team people, next time I hope to join you!

Sad to read the hip is still causing problems, I hope they can find the cause soon and hopefully you can get back to running. Like you mentioned, when you're out of commission, it seems like runners pop up everywhere! Don't worry about whining..
That is what we're here for. I hope your friend gets along okay with the chemo, wishing them well. Please keep us updated on your hip and even though your currently not running, please continue to stay here! Gayle
Thanks for the support Gayle I'm aiming to run the half marathon for Cancer Research because of my friend (a lovely sweet lady) so everything crossed (except my legs because that would be bad for my poor old hip!) that this will be sorted soon.
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear this. I know how frustrating it is when you're laid up with an injury. I just tried to keep some of my fitness with cycling; I don't know if that is an option for you.
Thanks swanscot Frustrating is indeed the word and I am worried about losing my fitness but have been banned everything except walking at least for the next few weeks...
Yes, thanks, although I'm taking a rest this week. I think I need a whole-system review as I seem to have too many aches and pains for things to be right, suddenly. Perhaps it's just age
