Morning running

Hello

Just wondering how people prepare for running in the morning.

So far I mostly run after work but it would be a lot more convenient to run as soon as I get up but I wouldn't want to eat before running nor drink lots but I am pretty sure running on empty and dehydrated would be a bad idea. Any ideas appreciated.

I run as soon as I get up. 2 glasses of water and off I go!

Home, shower, branflakes and milk (yummy) banana, dressed and off to work. Perfect!

Two cups of tea in bed from the Teasmade; then out for a run. Back to shower, fruit and cereal breakfast.

This is actually a major advance for me - when I started I was too embarrassed to run in daylight at all.

Set alarm for 5.45am, get changed, have a drink and a quick wee and off I go at 5.55am, do my run then back into a nice shower, get dressed - then wake 3yr old, dress her then I eventually get some breakfast at 9.30am at work!!!

Now you just have to remember that I'm not as young as many of you!! I like to have my cup of green T and banana, glass of water, wee then off I gooooooo. Home, shower, cereal and another couple of cups of T. The rest of the day takes care of its self.

I run first thing too - normally wait till it's just light then set off along deserted paths.

I don't eat or drink anything beforehand, and feel more comfortable like that.

I am an early morning runner, glass of water, blood pressure tablets and off me and hubby go. With spring round the corner we have seen some lovely sun rises over the last 9 months since we started the C25K . Pat :-)

Similar to all of the above - 2 glasses of water and go. I can run up to one hour with no food since the previous evening, but once over that distance I'll replace on glass of water with a smoothie or a small banana,

I've only in week 5 of the Couch to 5k plan but I'm quickly finding habits that suit me best.

Those are running in the morning, and on an empty stomach. I find running more difficult on an evening after work and just start to feel nauseous if I eat anything first.

Different strokes for different folks :-)

I run home from work for my three days, which judging from the above makes me the odd one out! I manage by having my lunch at about 2:30 so by 5 I'm still not hungry, but I can run.....

I always run badly in the afternoon (2 bad runs out of 2) so morning is my preferred time. Unlike others, though, I always have breakfast (porridge and banana +tea, or sometimes a little toast and fruit). Then I get the kids out to school, put my shoes on and go. I think I leave it just long enough to need the breakfast. I couldn't face running before brekkie - just wouldn't have my head together!

Good luck - Ann

I seem to be the odd one out here - any time I've tried morning running (at weekends) I've ended up with a migraine later in the day which has forced me to go to bed to sleep it off. I'm now cautiously optimistic that I MAY have traced what was causing that (dehydration - such that water alone, even before a run, didn't help - I need lots of homemade sugary salty sports drink before, during and after), but I still haven't dared venture out again any earlier than late afternoon.

I'm envious of those of you who can just get up and go - I can really imagine how it must set you up for the day. But it doesn't seem to work for me. :-(

Alarm is set for 5am and I'm out within 15 minutes, a few sips of water suffice.

Two cups of coffee, a banana (or this morning a Peppa Pig fromage frais), a wee, a faff with contact lenses and finding the right socks and checking my phone is charged, a visit to the bathroom for 'regular daily health' (ahem!), more faffing with lipsyl, my MP3 player, another wee and off I go :D

If I plan to run in the evening, I am too tired/lazy/busy, or it's too dark/cold/miserable. I wimp out much more in the evening, so I'm better off just going in the morning.
