Running track versus road running

I graduated at the beginning of March and have been slowly building up to the 5K. I usually run on a track just because it is safer to run on when I have me earpieces in listening to music.

So, today I decided I needed a bit of a challenge and to get out on the road. Where I live is a bit hilly so finding a flat bit to run was not easy.

I now have Strava on my phone and it tells me how far I have run. I managed to do 3.1 km in 29 minutes, but oh, that climb back up the hill. I ran up half of it and walked the other half. Running on a route or a road is so much different than running on a track.

You have to think road safety and the route is not as a flat at as the track, but I needed something a bit different than running around in circles.

Ok so I only did 3.1 Km that is more than I would have done to sitting on the couch.

What I love about running is that It really clears my head and I feel better within myself both physically and mentally.

Happy running everybody. 🏃‍♀️

The next step is to get off the road and onto trails and footpaths, then you will discover real running fun.

We have a couple of reservoirs in my area and I will be looking at running those. I didn’t like the road as there were car fumes.

Since starting my journey at the start of January I am really enjoying running. I never thought I would and I never thought I would be running.

If anyone enjoys reading I picked up a book called Running for my Life by Rachel Ann Cullen. It is a memoir and how it has improved the author’s depression. Interesting read.

It's good to change it up. And there's nothing 'only' about running for 29 mins! That's a brilliant achievement still 😀

Well done💪👏 can you have strava tracking your run at the same time as couch to 5K?

Yes you can. In fact I have both the app and Strava on at the same time as each other.

That's the best thing about running for me, using up the brain reading the road/ track/trail, picking the best lines, choosing where to cross etc whist taking in nature at its best.

I think there's a lot of us who can attest to the fact that running massively helps low mood and depression. 👍😉

I have envied those who have access to tracks as I reckon I could go even faster! 😁

I am back using a running track but it’s a grass one just to get me used to running again and then I will probably find a route to run.

I moved last October and I am still getting used to the area.
