Early morning running food advice

I'm going to be trying week 8 run 2 at 5am tomorrow as I can't fit it in otherwise. At this hour I won't be up to eating a lot but does anyone eat directly before they run. Have even considered chomping on a banana during the 5 min warm up. Would this be a mistake? Any thoughts gratefully received.

There was a lot of advice and chat about this yesterday so I'll post you a link to the thread:

I think you'll find that there are various opinions and that it is pretty much up to your own preference.

Things move on quickly in here, don't they. Easy to miss something useful.

Yes completely missed it and it answers my question perfectly. Think I will try without snack and see how I go. Thanks again sheps 😀

I always just have a cup of coffee to wake me up but I've always run in the morning on an empty stomach ...not as early as 5am I might add. Breakfast when you get home tastes sooo good 😊

Thank you 😀 I'm thinking I might have to go for empty stomach as it's so early.

I can do half a banana, glass of water, a few stretches and out the door but I guess we are all different. Think it's a bit psychological for me as I can do a 5k on empty but just prefer to eat first when I can (I am one of life's grazers). That said, I run better later in the day anyway!!🏃🏽‍♀️

My early morning runs are done on a mug of tea (sometimes2) and breakfast when I get back. My last early morning on Sunday was 14.5km with no problems - I did have a belt with 2 small water bottles in it though.
