Quick update...Knackered but smiling

Managed to do 8.5 mies today in 1 hr 45 mins....still very much a tortoise but slowly upping the mileage. Found the first half...ok over half....really tough going and wanted to give up but managed to kick that pesky gremlin to touch. Reassuringly the last mile and bit was almost enjoyable...think that was coz it was slightly downhill and the flat and i felt i could have carried carried on a little bit further :) I am hoping the hills...those really long incline ones...will be helping with my stamina and I'll reap the benefit on the day of the HM as its flat.

Next saturdays goal is 10 miles (double figures..yikes!). That's it for now...happy running everyone!

Well done !

I had a bit of a disaster - the first 6-7km were ok, I had some pain in my sinuses and was a bit tired but nothing surprising after two weeks without running. I stopped briefly while I decided which way to go next and got a sudden pain in my hip, like a trapped nerve. The Orange network seemed to be down (I still don't have a signal now) so I couldn't get rescued and ended up limping all the way home, uphill ! I covered 7.71 miles in 2hr21mins :-( although that did include 10mins waiting to meet some people - I missed them as I had my times wrong. Bit of a disaster really but I'm not beaten yet.

:( oh no...long way to limp home. I carry a phone when I'm on long run on my own so that I could be rescued if I got injured...nightmare that the network was done. Hope you are all warm and cosy and resting. Hope the hip is ok.

I am sure the next one will be fine...we all know you have good and bad runs and I love that you are not beaten by it! Onwards and upwards!

Having the phone always seems like a sensible precaution but it was a total letdown today ! It's also the only time I've not taken emergency cash with me.

Really good idea to build inclines into your training even though your hm is flat, you will probably fly along on the big day. Best of luck with your training, sounds like you're making good steady progress after your setbacks.

Thanks. Unfortunatley where I live don't get a choice about running hills / inclines but I'm thinking postiively about them :)

Me too, I avoided them as much as I could during c25k but since building distance it's proved impossible so I look upon them as training aids. It always helps to think positively, & in this case I'm sure you really will be building stength & stamina. A bit like those runners who train with weighted back packs (but not as mad!) :-)

That's over 13.5k!! Well done you. Get the miles under your belt and the speed will come later. That's what I understand. Go for it: goo for that half marathon.

Wow, well done Ali, that's a great distance, and 10 miles next week? Go you!

Whens the HM and which one are you going for? I always thought a HM was out of the question for me but I've recently started upping my distance and I'm starting to think about signing up for one late this year / early next.

I am doing Paddock Wood in Kent...supposed to be good for first timers as its flat...hole that's true!

Well done Ali! You are being so brave and sticking with it......you can do it!! That is an awesome mileage - your endurance is ace to be able to run for that long. You cannot run a half marathon without endurance so your focus seems right to me. How many weeks until your half? Any tips as I'm putting together my half training schedule this week.

Best wishes

5 weeks to go. I started with the runners world training plan and have then adapted it to suit me as missed a number of weeks due to illness...now just upping ,mileage by mile / mile and a half a week and then will do a couple at 11ish miles and save the big 13 for the day
