Dear All,

Some of you contacted me via a private message, having noticed I haven't been around for a while.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your kind carefulness; I am touched by how closed to me you are.

You might remember I've been facing a redundancy consultation process since last month; it did not proceed well and it concluded this morning with the confirmation of my redundancy. As you can imagine, I did not take it very well...

For my entire life I've either been studying or working and this is the first time I am unemployed; I am a bit scared by the idea and quite worried about what to now do and how to pay bills. Most of all, as stupid as it might sound, I cannot help but to feel "ashamed", as if it was my fault, despite knowing perfectly well it was not. Strange things, those feelings.

Apart from that, I am fine (well, I am still overweight and I am not rejuvenating, but you know what I mean) and I just need some time to absorb the hit, let the storm I have in my head calm down and then figure out what to do.

I'll be away for a little longer, but I promise I'll be back; in the meantime don't worry for me and rest assure that your affection didn't get unnoticed or unappreciated. You are a wonderful lot and I am lucky to have met you.

Thank you all and see you soon.

Saverio

Very sorry to hear about your redundancy. You will find something else, you're young, strong and intelligent. Keep running to clear your head and work off your frustration. You've been missed and we'll be delighted when you come back. Good luck!

So, sorry to hear your news Saverio. What a really horrible thing to be going through and I think one that makes people feel so powerless. Take the time you need to process all the rubbish, but do hold on to how much running has done for you and try to get out there when you can. Things will work out for you, I am sure and when you are feeling ready, we'll all still be here, sharing and comparing runs, new shoes and tips to avoid/come back from injury! Take care🙂

So sorry to hear this Saverio x

It's going to maybe sound a bit trite but keep running. Keeping your mental and physical health well will hopefully help you through this.

Hi Sav, sorry to hear it's actually happened. It's a great opportunity to reinvent yourself, and figure out a way of making money from something you enjoy doing.

Hi Saverio, I do appreciate your honesty and to be honest I'm probably not the only person that would agree as I've also been the subject of the brown envelope from work. Although we've been around this forum for much the same time we've not exchanged much but I've enjoyed reading your posts. I'm so sorry to hear of your position and although I can say 'don't worry better things will come from this' you probably hope this will be true but don't want people to talk to you like this.

I'm not entirely sure what you do and I don't think I can offer any opportunities personally but to be honest this is a tremendous forum for connecting with people from all walks of life. You may have told people what you do, apologies I can't remember, but why not let others see if they can help.

Just a thought but you never know who's listening.

Apologies if this is coming across in the wrong way but I'm just looking for positives as you normally do.

Sorry to hear that Secan. You are not alone - I know a good number of people who have faced redundancy at various stages in life and for many it has turned out, with hindsight, to be a positive change. Stay strong, try to keep positive, keep running to leave those worries behind. We'll all be here for you when you want to come back. X

You do need to take care of yourself and while your instinct at a time like this is to withdraw please don't. Find someone, anyone, us if you like to share this with as you go through it. You will feel a whole range of emotions over time, none are wrong. The uncertainty and not knowing will have been very hard, from here on it is about a plan for one day at a time and use whatever support may be helpful to get you through that day. Kindest wishes.

I'm sorry to read that you're going through this secan and I wondered where you'd gone.

Redundancy is a horrible thing to happen and I hope you are getting some support from the company. For example, time off to attend interviews, help with updating your CV and a decent redundancy package. The practical stuff can help a lot at a time like this.

When I worked I made a lot of people redundant and tried to make it as painless as possible and I hope your company is acting responsibly and kindly as that can make a huge difference to emotions. You've probably heard this during your consultation but it's true - the job is redundant not the person. Please don't feel ashamed. It has nothing to do with you or your ability. Redundancies are all about costs, budgets and savings.

Try to see this as an opportunity for something new. Yes it's scary but once you get a few interviews you'll feel much more in control.

I wish you all the best in this unsettling time.

As 90ldfinch said : re-invent yourself and do something you enjoy.

Your job was stressful I believe, so "stuff" the bosses, go solo, start your own business in that field if it is something you like, if not, go completely different, think what you like and go from there.

It may be the break that will save your life, your sanity.

Everyone has something going for them. You included.

Thanks for posting, Saverio, I have thought about you so many times and been missing your comments and posts.

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't just blow over. I hope it turns out to be a blessing in disguise and that something much better will come along.

Take good care of yourself. Hugs, Iben

I'm sorry you're going through this. Chin up, and don't put your trainers away, or desert the forum! Sometimes this kind of thing is actually a blessing in disguise - I'm confident that you're going to find much better elsewhere. Take it as an opportunity for change and renewal.

Secan, don't you even dare think it was your fault. I'm going to suggest you meditate to calm that storm in your head, I have been where you are and I know how destructive that storm can be. in fact that what part of my journey to a much better life, although it didn't feel like it at the time. If you want some help with simple meditation technique send me a message and I will teach you

Kindest Regards

I was made redundant 2 years ago and felt exactly the same. Everyone said "everything happens for a reason" which was not what I wanted to hear. But it turned out they were right in the end. I got a much better job, with nicer people, for more money. It's a good opportunity to think about whether or not to change career too (I didn't in the end as the job I'm in now came up) but had it not done so, I was considering doing a total u-turn on the job front. Keep your chin up and let friends and family be there for you. A hard worker like yourself will not be out of work for too long I'm sure.

On the job front, I've had a very busy week interviewing and doing tests to prove my technical skills; I am now expecting a feedback by the end of this week.

On the running front, I haven't run at all in a month or so ( :( ) but that is something I intend to tackle sooner rather than later; I said that I'll be back and I'll be back, no excuse. ;)
