There's an interesting long thread about Garmin below. But I have no idea what sort of Garmin people are talking about. I suspect I might find it useful if only I knew what it was.

Garmin
This is the one I have:

You can measure distance and time and upload to the Garmin Connect site where it shows your run in stats and graphs. There's a new C25K group to join too.
There are other Garmins which do more than the 10.
I love mine and I can't wait till spring springs and all this Swiss snow vanishes and I can turn my back on the treadmill for a few months
We are talking about any sort of Garmin GPS device that we use to record our running, walking, cycling, etc and then upload to the Garmin Connect website for tracking/sharing/analysing our activities.
Some of us are using the new Garmin Forerunner10 watch, which is the most basic (easiest) one in their range. Others are using the Forerunner 110 which is also popular with runners and others may have more sophisticated running watches.
I also upload activities to Garmin Connect which I have recorded on my Garmin Oregon hand-held (hiking) GPS.
I have the Forerunner 110 which has the heart monitor. I've only used it twice but I found a good deal online so paid about the same as one without. It tracks route, distance, time, speed, pace and has an alarm if you want to set specific timings.
I love being able to track my progress accurately rather than trying to work it out afterwards.

I love my Garmin as I don't have to plan too much, I can just set off with a distance or time in mind and then just explore and go where i fancy and know when I need to think / set about finding a way back about half time / distance also good for tempo runs to push my self a bit but not too much that I'm going o have to walk. Walking is reserved for pyramid training when it gets hard
Sorry about the ramble
my housemate has invested in a 410 - and it looks amazing! I am definitely going to have to have a little play with it before payday. I am a sucker for a gadget, particularly when it is something that I would use and be more reliable than my iphone GPS!!!
I have a 410 and it's great, easier than a smartphone because it's on your wrist all he time and easy to use during the run. I'm also sucker for a gadget, but I promise this is a gadget that keeps on giving not many of them gadgets around.
Thanks for all the responses. I love gadgets. On a bit of an economy kick at the moment though so will have to save a penny or two before I can think about shelling out £89.
