When I become interested in a subject I tend to devour everything decent I can find, so I'll not give you any parameters, I'll just have a look at your suggestions and choose what to read.

Feet in the Clouds by Richard Askwith.

It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you go "oh my goodness" or words to that effect!

I am the same....... :)

For basic running info:

This is a good one that covers all the basics of running for a novice and is easy reading:

couchto5k.healthunlocked.co...

Another for dealing specifically with injuries and stretching are:

bloomsbury.com/uk/running-r...

bloomsbury.com/uk/stretchin...

I've just loaded Run Faster With Less Effort by Tyler Stolting onto my Kindle, it was free. I've not got very far reading yet, the first chapter's all about posture, and there's a helpful video link at the beginning of each chapter so that you can see what he's talking about.

" Running Well: Run Smarter, Run Faster, Avoid Injury... and Enjoy It More!"[Paperback]

Sam Murphy (Author), Sarah Connors (Author)

This looks interesting, but I've not read it. The reviews look good. I'm very tempted.

I bought Born to Run at the weekend, and am really looking forward to reading it. I've read Chi Running, and enjoyed it. There is quite a bit of chi-ness about it, which might not suit everyone, but the idea of avoiding injury by focusing on good running form seems entirely sensible.

Oh, I could spend so much money! I love books. Off to look at Feet in the Clouds. The 5k and 10k one looks good too. Aha - I've just come up with my justification for spending money on books. Running outdoors saves spending money on gym fees.

I received a copy of Danny Dreyer's book, Chi Running: A Training Program for Effortless, Injury-free Running for a birthday present and as a new runner, I enjoyed reading it. As you say, there is a fair bit about Chi in it (and according to some reviewers who are familiar with Tai Chi, it is not 100% correct) and there is a tendency to stray into mystical pseudo science, but his description about running form is good. During my runs I'll often think about checking my form (postures, etc) to ensure I run as effortlessly as possible.

Depends what you are looking for. There's a lot of stuff on the web including some good videos on Youtube, The Runner's World website has lots of interesting articles as well as advice.

As to books - I enjoyed reading Running with the Kenyans which was an interesting mix of running experience and an insight into another culture. A friend recommended "Run fat bitch run" but I have only browsed bits of it.

I endorse Born to Run and also:

and

I also enjoyed books about ultra running. Happy reading and running!

Not a "how to run" book but still about running - What I Talk About when I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. Quite short but I enjoyed it and found it quite thought-provoking.

Runners World Complete Book of Running seems to cover a lot

Born To Run. Born To Run. Born To Run.

It'll stick to your hand until you finish it. Ridiculously motivating.

Born to Run by Christopher McDougall is the book that inspired this 68 yr old woman to start running. It's a great read, informative and makes you think that anyone can work up to running a 100 miles.
