Wk 1, Run 3 Gathering the courage....

DarthVaderismyRealDaddy profile image

I'm new to all of this, completed only two runs so far- and I've joined this website today as I feel the smallest tremble in my conviction just ahead of my third run. If I finish this week, that makes some kind of commitment - huh? And as something of a professional commitment phobe....... Sigh. Run one was hell. Run two was totally weirdly quite enjoyable. A big part of me is content to leave it there, as a 50/50 experience. I've been lightly hoping for a sudden snowdrift in central London all afternoon. It's dark. I've used every diversionary tactic I know, washed several clean plates. Still, I'm lacing my lovely new trainers, and I honestly feel like I'm crossing to the dark side. Run 3... Here we go.

You've already made the committment so go for it! Hope run 3 went OK.

Please don't wish for snow in London (or near it) I don't think I could cope with the commuting nightmare that any change in weather brings!

Thanks for rooting for me Ali, I made it through to my own astonishment, and therefore I'm willing to take back the wish for snow! If it does snow now... It's not my fault!

Hi there,

Hope you stick with it because there are so many benefits. As well as the obvious, looking better, your health will improve and it is just like taking a chill pill, I feel so much better and less stressed. I work full time too and pretty long hours so it does require a bit of planning but I never regret it.

Good luck!

Thanks Norni- I figure if I've started in the depths of winter... Things can only get lighter and brighter ay ? Looking forward to feeling less stressed as you describe - I found it quite stressful telling my husband I was going for a run, and his astonished face.........

Oh, I get that! I actually didn't tell my husband - I went to the sports shop (that he regularly uses for tennis stuff - very scary for me, a non-sports person) and bought myself running shoes, and hid them under the bed! I even went out running one morning when I'd woken up early, before he woke up, and got back while he was still fast asleep - and didn't tell him! I only confessed once I'd got onto week 2, and knew I'd keep going. :)

Yup. You have joined the dark side - see Norni's picture.

You have enjoyed one run. You are now addicted and will never escape. Wooah haa haa.

So, who knew it was that easy for the dark side to claim you? I thought there had to be a whole battle between good and evil, with thunderbolts and lightening, very very frightening. No. Three dark jogs down some backstreets. Thanks for rooting for me.

You are obviously not a lover of films of the animated variety. Or maybe your children are to old/young, of course that is if you have children!

I quote bugs life (the movie), where the fly approaches the uv fly killer light and his mate tries to dissuade him from his journey.

Ah!

No kids is right, although I'm always missing film references as I'm not really one for the movies.

Like the line though.

I'm at the same point. Yep, it's a bit daunting because my knees hurt a bit. But go for it, I am. If I can do it then you definitely can!
