After running 4.5k in 30 mins a couple of days ago I upped my pace this time round. I got to 5k after 27 minutes and stopped as I'd come to the end of my route. Though I was pleased with that time I can't help thinking it would have been better if I'd just done the 5k but taken 30 mins to do it.

Very inspiring. Upping from 4.5k to 5! How did you feel increasing your pace? I ran wk8 run3 last night. I accidentally played wk7 podcast, so had to run through the warm down walk section. So I accidentally ran for 30 min! I worked out I ran 4.8k in 30 mins, but that magic 5k would mean a push on my pace. my legs are aching this morning, just hope I can follow your success.
Hi Tish, for the first half of the run I had my doubts as to whether I was going to keep it up, but I kept with it. Then once I'd got to 20 mins my overcompetitive nature kicked in and I was thinking screw it I'm going to see how much time I can shave off this. My legs are a bit achy this morning too but I'm alive! I suppose the best thing to do is try and push yourself a little more each time if you feel up to it. Sounds like you've already got a jump on week 9, well done!
Thanks Ross, l think that competitive streak might shave more time of that 5k! My legs are aching, but still going to do the 3 wk 9 runs. Wouldn't like to miss out on the wonderful tunes ;).
I was just reading up on the speed podcast and interval, so might try your tack but with the option of slow, fast, slow... If it gets too difficult.
I have found a good route that is uphill for the first 2/3rds then a good downhill section. I'm going to use this as a constant. See if I can improve my time and distance.
