No plans for an NHS B210K program....

Well, here is the reply from John in admin about my query regarding an NHS B210K program similar to the C25K with Laura.....Bad news folks.

Looks like we will have to continue with Samantha or others out there......

Sue

There's no plan to do a bridge to 10k programme.

The reason we've not gone specifically for a 10k programme is that it goes slightly beyond our remit of helping people start their journey to getting fitter and more active and more into pure 'running' programmes.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for posting the response as I've been wondered the same thing. Its a really shame they're not planning on doing a B210K programme. I completed C25K on Boxing Day and have yet to start B210K with Samantha. I think I will follow this one though over others I'm read about. Have you done any of the podcasts with Samantha?

P.S I'm so excited I got my green badge!

Congratulations icequeen on graduating and on your shiny green badge - it looks wonderful!! You must feel so proud....what a great way to start the new year!!

I havent started B210k yet but will be starting tomorrow - watch this space!

I quite liked Samantha's programme, the change in the music was ok, unfortunately I only did tw or three weeks before injury.

The programme can increase your running by more than 10%, which risks injury, so take care, but good luck, I'm working far more slowly at building my distance since that injury.

Thats very interesting Phil, I wasnt aware of that.....I will take it easy thats for sure as, touch wood, I havent as yet had any running related injuries so dont want to start now! Hope you are on the road to recovery now?

Thank you Sue for checking into it!!! :-) Gayle

No problem Gayle just a shame they dont see it as the next step up. Most probably a funding thing knowing the NHS...!

It is a real shame - because a few months running is just getting started and what's made the difference for me was having the structured podcasts.

There must be more out there on the web somewhere

SBG356 profile image

There are a variety of podcasts, apps and programmes out there for this so its just whatever suits you in the end. I think I will just do it to my own music in the end, using my watch to record the run times. Shame though......

I think this is what I will do also. I KNEW that garmin would come in useful! ;-)

Damn right Gayle! Justifies the cost of a plastic watch now doesnt it??!! x

This is such a shame, but I do understand the rationale. Thanks for asking, Sue - hmmm... what to do next? I know there are various options, but c25k was so easy! I might have to think for myself now :D

SBG356 profile image
SBG356Graduate in reply toAnniemurph

Yes I too understand the rationale behind it but it is still a shame. Yep thinking for ourselves - now I DO miss Laura!!!

Thanks Sue for getting a definitive answer for us. I will be attempting to move onto 10K using Samantha as my guide. It is a great shame that the NHS cant help us but what I do know is that with all the support on this site we can probably just do it ourselves! So many people have such great ideas and advice, including choice of music to run to :) Maggie :)

You are right Maggie. Maybe we should set up our own group for B210K runners!

Ooooh! I would _definitely_ be up for that!!

Thank you Sue. I really intended to follow through with asking, but got a bit busy yesterday.

I too can understand the rationale for refusing to bridge the gap, but I think that they have missed a Golden Opportunity here. As so many enjoy Laura C-5K & 5k+ and need structured direction to their running programme, why not cash in on it and charge a small fee as recompense? I'm sure there would be few people not to subscribe, as is evident by the numbers wanting it. A pity no-one in admin has muted this point and asked us what we think instead of a resounding "no".

Thank you Sue for asking again for us all.

Well done icequeen-Keep on Running :-)

So true Colette after all we are the ones doing the programme so it would be nice to get our opinion though, like you, I can see their point more's the pity..... Absolutely a golden opportunity missed though!!

Hope you will soon be out and about too Colette - so frustrating for you.

Good call! I would happily pay a small fee for a professionally produced Bridge-to-10K series of podcasts! I am making do with Samantha, and I'm really glad she put together the podcasts for this... but I really miss the high quality of the NHS Couch-to-5K series. Never would have expected this when I was starting out last year..... but I actually miss Laura! ;-D

Would it be worth putting this to Admin Matthew?

Yep-all correct there Sue. It IS frustrating, also worrying that with so much time out a part of me won't want to go out and do it in the cold weather :-(.

Hello Dear Sue - Sara calling :-)!!!!!!! Yessssss.... I am very quietly back - don't tell. I am doing W4 but over 10 days. The ultrasound is having a bit of an effect and my Homeopathic Doctor friend in Nottingham has just told me of the miraculous healing effects of Hekla Lava - from an Icelandic Volcano. It specifically deals with this sort of heel spur problem - yaaay!

Anyway, I hope you are well and survived all the indulgences. I haven't stopped as there's no point until my birthday's out of the way. It's meant to be tomorrow but Mat is down with some horrid bacterial infection so I think I'll have an unofficial birthday as well - like the Queen :-)!!!!

Have missed all the happy chats.

Deep in deep, deep snow here so not sure how my trainers will fare - or me for that matter, it may be like running through water!!!

Thanks for the tip off re B210K

Hugs, Sara :-) xox

HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUEEN SARA!!!! :) :) :) ;)

Lovely to hear from you and brilliant news that you are back!!! I'm glad you are looking at other alternatives for healing and I really hope that with a bit of a combo of everything you will soon be mended :D Going slow is the best thing so good on ya! :)

Wow, snow.....that will be a challenge!

I am well and trying to up my distance slowly so will see how that goes now I am back to evening running :(

Best wishes and hugs and I hope Mat gets better soon so you can CELEBRATE!!!

Sue, Sue, thank you :-) :-).

Upping your distance sounds great. You know I'm really itching to get out there now and to get my distance up. I think as long as I CAN get out there to run I'll be happy regardless of whether it's W4 or just a 10 minute outing - just to keep the engines oiled!!

The snow has almost blocked us off from the road and the rivers are almost at the top of the banks so it'll be interesting to see how they manage it if anything dramatic happens - everything is so organised and they still even manage to keep everything going in spite of so much snow - amazing!!

So, I'll keep you posted and hopefully will be running and posting more regularly now. I have a couple of questions to ask about your Garmin out of curiosity but will keep that for another time.

Thanks for all your kind wishes

Sara :-) xox
