The turkey that put my back out!

Well, after running on Christmas Day (despite the slowness due to Christmas Eve tipples), guess who knackered her back getting the turkey out of the oven? :-P

That's me out of action for a bit!

Oh no Delia!! Oh well it's a good story for when someone asks how did you do it......!!

Make sure you rest up, as I know you will, and enjoy the time for a few more tipples without worrying about it affecting your running the next day!

Wish your back better soon and very best wishes for you and your family for 2013!!

Bad luck Delia - how heavy was that bird?! Seriously, I hope your haven't damaged it badly. Maybe some gentle stretching would help. Take it easy and a happy return to running in 2013!

it wasn't actually THAT heavy! It was the spuds and stuffings (plural!) combined with the way I lifted the bloody tray!

I knew too much much cholesterol was bad for you!

the irony of it all is, that I don't even eat turkey hahahahahah

Oh Delia - that's a rotten thing to do! Now join me (and others) on the enforced rest bench (there is still room if we squeeze up a bit) and get better soon!

In the meantime you can write your resolutions for 2013 (no.1 no lifting turkeys, no 2 I will run lots when I'm better......)

Will it be spring and summer again soon? Feel like we all need it.

Thanks Ann., but wWhy is it that when you are fit and well you look forward to watching TV, but when you are really sick you just hate that couch and TV sucks?

Welcome to the walking wounded... I prescribe hot baths, heat packs, fango and massage, rest, gentle exercise and lots of whatever takes your fancy. Mix'n match as needed.

Get better soon, Delia, and take advantage of any Christmas visitors still around to put your feet up - let everyone else do the work now! :-)

I'm actually on painillers by injection -- is that just Italy or are the Swiss also obsessed with injections on your sit-upon?

DeliaItaly profile image

of course I meaht painKillers :-D

Not so you'd notice... I had a long back story and the only injections I ever had were cortisone jabs into the muscles. Maybe injections work quicker, I don't know...

And you can be glad your sit-upon is now shapely and presentable-in-public... or something... :-D

hee hee hee ... talking of bums, they are also obsessed with suppositories which for me, have a Carry-on flavour to them. You know, the butt who would always attempt to swallow the suppository instead of .... and Hattie Jacques knowingly winking at the audience ;-)

Yeah, they don't make them like that anymore...

The Swiss are big on suppositories too. Must be a mainland Europe thing. Or maybe it's a Brit 'not quite nice' thing... I remember my entire family in Scotland being amazed, horrified and yes, amused in a Hattie Jacques way that I treated my babies' fevers with suppositories... happy days!

We spent a long time in Scotland when my eldest two were babies and my Italian mother in law was amazed at how laid back medical staff were about fevers. Unlike italian panic stations. I think that there are several truths in life, if you see what I mean, and living between 2 cultures, I think we are lucky to glean the best of diverse mind sets, don't you? Suppositories are quick acting and don't create havoc with one's stomach. They are also funny -- there's a brand here called Zeppelin :-D

Well look at you!!!! Braving every single run of C25K, graduating and then it was the turkey that did you in!!!! Sounds like a few hot bubble baths and a tipple or two are just the medicine you need. Wishing you a speedy recovery and blessed 2013! PS: Did you have the brat you spoke of earlier at your home for Christmas??? Gayle

Oh, Delia - what a bummer! I've only just seen this.

Hope your back is healing? Next year you'll have a good excuse to get out of the cooking, or at least to refuse to have turkey!

Happy new year to you and yours. V xx
