I think the men's are wider - when I was trying a few in a sports shop last week, I was given the ladies first, but the assistant felt that my feet were a bit wide (the polite way of saying "oi, you've got fat feet") and so I tried a mens and it was much comfier and more roomy so didn't rub my feet as much.

Here's Asics take on the subject:

I think the important thing is to try them on in a shop where they offer you the opportunity to run on the treadmill to see if the shoes feel right for you. Some shops that offer gait analysis will let you return the shoes later if they turn out not to suit you.

Sweatshop allows you take them back even when muddy (within 30 days) if they have advised you....great reassurance!

thankyou. wow I didnt realise there was so much involved! being a ladylike size 8 in trainers I thought I might have a look at the mens ones but seems like I should stick to ladies. may do what little kay says & try the mens & womens in the local sports shop. thanks again. x

Women's heels tend to be narrower and so have a wider forefoot. We have more motion in our gait so the shoes are made rounder at the heel for women. Women are proportionately lighter so need different, softer cushioning. Women's shoes can come in pink!!! LOL!

Enjoy shopping Shelley!
