Week 5 complete, starting week 6

Was really pleased with myself after completing W5R3. I had a small stich near the end, but concentrating on breathing sorted that out. Never thought I'd be running for 20 minutes non-stop! I recovered really quickly as well which felt good too. I must be getting fitter :).

I did the run around a local field/pitch. For the next long run I think I'll go to my local park, or down by the river, as I didn't enjoy running around in circles for so long, and it would be nice to have some scenery as a distraction.

I also tried different runners (Merrell) tonight - bad idea! I usually use them for hiking but they were specified as 'running' shoes when I bought them. They are so comfortable for hiking. I've been left with a blister along the instep of my left foot after running though. The instep support is just too much when running, and my feet moved a lot in the shoes. Back to my reliable Pumas tonight for W6R1.

Well done for completing week 5. :) Be careful not to start off too fast tonight, as is the temptation after successfully running for 20 minutes. Your body has done its hardest run yet and may still be repairing itself. If you find W6,R1 going well you can always increase your speed towards the end. Have a great run.

Thanks, although W6R1 turned out to be quite hard. It was so hot and I don't think my legs had recovered from the previous run. Leaving an extra day till the next one.

Well done you...I'm starting week 6 run 1 tonight and quite looking forward to it. I've started running in New Balance Minimus Trail shoes, they're like a 'barefoot shoe' and I have to say...apart from the calves hurting as you can't heel strike in them I didn't have heavy legs, shin splints, aching hips and I totally LOVED my run...whereas before I would go out and think...'what the bloody hell am I doing this for, it just hurts!' lol...something to think about anyway...google barefoot running and you'll be suprised what you find.

How did you find it? I'll look into those shoes. I've seen a few people the barefoot 'glove' type ones recently and am curious about them.

I ran this morning instead lol...was soo tired yesterday, my little boy had me up at 5.30 so needed an early night! Plus my calves were still recovering from my 20 minute run...wore my minimus this morning and I feel like I could run for hours...although that's not at all a sensible thing to do when you're starting to run the 'barefoot' way. I bought some Vibram Fivefingers off eBay and they arrived this morning, lovely pink Bikila ones, think I need the men's size 41 though as they're a little too snug across the top of my foot :o( they feel amazing on your feet though, I'd cant wait to get some that fit!

Well done, this was the run when I thought wow I did it, hope your smiling at what you've achieved. :-)

Yey, I thought wow, but that change to ow after last night! Lol. Giving myself and extra day to recover and then I'll jump back into it.
