Hi Day 1 - wanting to hear from anyone with previous spinal operations/issues
Background is two previous spinal op's 12 years ago and major abdominal surgery 1 year ago. So my core muscles aren't in good shape but I'm trying. I've lost 1 stone 12 lbs in 10 weeks with calorie counting and power walking, Today I included day one within my 2 hour power walk and my back held up so I'm over the moon. I know there is a long way to go, but I'm hoping. My power walks weren't stretching me anymore whilst the lbs dropped off so I've decided to up the anti and go for it.
Not the right week to do it really as I'm on holiday next week, but will simply start week 1 again when I'm back.
Current physio isn't convinced it's the right thing, but in my mind I have to try otherwise I'll never know. So well see. Good luck to every one who has already kicked off.
Just another 1 stone 5 lbs to go and by then I really hope I'll be ending week 9. I plan to keep up with power walks in between, hoping that works.

Had an op for herniated disk in 2008 ..closest thing I've encountered to a miracle cure. Still very nervous about anything that could cause it to fail again but its not given me any probs up to now and I'm week 6. I've had probs with calves but thats unrelated .. shouldn't be an issue for you after the power walking.
Just listen to your body if it complains and back off a bit.
I admire your determination. I don't share your experiences at all but I think, as KANdoit says, you should listen to your body, even the tiniest of niggles. If resting now means you can still be running/jogging in 10-20-30-or more years time, then it's worth learning to be patient.
You might need to find yourself a physio who wants you to be able to exercise - or does your current physio just realise you're stubborn and impatient and very determined ?
Thanks for the replies - if any of you hear me moaning about my back - well the physio was right and you are at free will to say told you so, with a big loud nah, nah. Could feel it in my calves today so slower, shorter walk before day 2 tomorrow. My physio wants me in the pool, but it seems too much hassel, it would be fine if I lived by the med, love the sea but not chlorine pools.
I have had numerous back operations the biggest being a left lateral discectomy 3 years ago - also six weeks ago I managed to fracture my sacrum - I have just returned to the gym with strict physio advice on what I can an can't do. I can only run in a gym on a treadmill on flat and have to stop if the pain increases. Before i fell I was on W5R3 but went back to week one - now on W2R3 and so far so good. Following my runs I do have sciatica but it normally settles by the morning the best advice is listen to your body - with any back pain you need execise without strain.Keep active and good luck

Hi. Between 1997 & 2005 I have had 3 major back surgies. A Grad Stabilization on L4, L5 & S1 & 2 surgies on T11 - T12. I have now been running since August last year & just going to the gym aswell. My biomachinic physiothherapist said I should carry on as I'm in the best shape & condition she's ever seen my back. She's been treating me for nearly 3years! The only thing I would say ' is she won't let me road run I have to run on grass. It is do able but be careful!!
