Hi, everyone! I'm excited to have found this forum. I've been strength training for a little over two years and lost 60 lbs. I still have 40 lbs to go, so I'm hoping the C25K will help give my weight loss a boost. I'm kinda nervous, but not sure why, except that I've NEVER been a runner! But I was never a weightlifter, either, and I *am* one now, so ... why not? We don't fail until we quit, right? I'll take a look at all the other newbies' posts to find advice/support. Wish me luck--I may need it--the mental battle will probably be the hardest! (Any other older/heavier people just starting out?)
Here goes nothin'!! I'm 58 and 40 lbs overwei... - Couch to 5K
Here goes nothin'!! I'm 58 and 40 lbs overweight ...
p.s. I also had both knees replaced 4 years ago, so I'm bionic. Is there a way to edit these posts? I wanted to add this to my original post, instead of reply to my own post, but I couldn't find a way to edit. Thanks!
Good luck Laurie and congratulations on your weight loss!c25k is fab just take it slowly ,it really is a great programme and this forum is the best😊yes you're right,a lot of it is fighting the gremlins 😕😆
Ps. To edit use the little downward arrow that's alongside the Facebook symbol at the bottom of your post😊
How fantastic- you must be so proud of yourself. Well done.
I running really tones me especially round the tummy area thiugh I'm not sure how! And yes I'm older so it still works. Just follow the plan - it's ace . Good luck and keep us posted
I'm 53 and on week 2. I started last year and got to week 8 before I had knee problems - probably lack of strength to support the running, so it's really good that you've been working on that in advance. Second time through is feeling good. Best of luck - this is a really supportive group of people.
Hi.. well done for starting this..
Many, many of us, never saw themselves as runners, and no intention ever, of becoming runners... yet, here we all are!
Are you on the Weight Loss NHS forum as well? Quite a few of the folk on this forum are also on that one and find it works really well. This programme is great for toning and making you leaner and fitter, but not a guarantee for weight loss. Although some folk have lost weight with it
Trick is, as you will hear so many times, is slow and steady.... Follow the programme and really make sure you take your rest days! I assume you have the link?

Other exercise too, on rest days will help as well ! Many of us have used and still used strength and flex,, but there are lots of other things you can do, swimming, walking ( simply wonderful) cycling or yoga for example

Keep posting! Great ideas, advice and complete support on the forum, some great posts and terrific encouragement..
PS
We never use the 'f' word... we say, setback or blip or practice run..nobody ever f***s....
Hi Laurie, welcome to the forum! None of us were runners before starting C25K, every single one of us will tell you what a fab programme it is, and this forum is fab too. Congrats on your weight loss, don't forget to keep us posted on your progress xx
Welcome! What a great transformation you've already made, well done you! The C25k programme is made for people like us, people who never thought they would or could run. Now so many of us can't imagine our lives without running! The biggest advice is to go slowly (really slowly) and to follow the programme to the letter.
This forum is simply the best place on the internet and the people here are incredible, amazing and inspirational. Let us know how you're getting on and let us encourage, motivate and celebrate with you!
You'll be great. Very few of us were runners when we began the program.
Wow! Well done you! 60lbs is a hell of a lot of weight to have lost to date. That's amazing. I wish you well on losing your next 40lbs and hope you enjoy the programme. You'll have a "runner's" body before you know it! Good luck 😉
Well done! That's fantastic. I was a non-runner,started Couch25k at 61 and have just done my first 5k run at 62 which was exhilarating! I've lost about 20 lbs since last October and I'm sure the running has been a big help alongside the free app MyNetDiary where it's really easy to log your food intake and exercise. I found that buying the right running shoes from a specialist running shop was vital and I'm sure that's why I've had no ankle or knee problems since I started running. The other thing I would add is that you can repeat any of the runs as often as you want. I think I did Week 5 three times before I felt ready to move on to week 6 and then it was plain sailing until the end! I think there may be various people guiding you through the pods casts but the one with Laura, who was a non-runner herself, has been brilliant.
Fantastic achievement. Very inspirational.
Well done so far - lots of us are older than you!!! As many have said very few saw themselves as runners before starting. I didn't even do the dreaded cross-country at school. Good luck.
Welcome Laurie and well done on starting the c25k plan.
It will take you very carefully from being a non-runner to being able to run for 30 mins non stop..
It sounds scary and impossible I know, but follow the plan at your own pace and it really does work.😊
Good luck with Week 1 Run 1..
Hi Laurie and welcome to this friendly forum. I find so much encouragement here, and so much friendly advice, it's invaluable. Congratulations on your achievements thus far - I think you will love c25k. It will be a doddle for you. For the record, I am about the same age as you and about the same (over)weight. My son and daughter-in-law are both weight lifters (she's also a yoga teacher and he's a personal trainer and fitness coach) and although they are young and fabulous, neither of them were runners. They did c25k last year and loved it. They are now training to do 10k and aiming to get to a half marathon fairly soon. For my part, I have never been a runner, but I always wanted to run and was jealous of people who did. This year, with a BIG birthday looming, I decided I would be a runner, and have set myself a challenge of doing 5k by the summer. And, ok, at the moment I am more of a galumphing waddler, but I am on the way...there are loads of people on the forum in our age bracket. We can do this!
