Couldn't run this morning. My shin was far too painful. I felt really sad, I tried and I tried but I was just limping, so I walked for an hour instead. On my walk I went past an accident which had just happened. A motorcyclist and a couple of cars. I asked if I could help but there was nothing I could do and they were phoning the ambulance. He was still breathing, I heard her say.
It made for a very, very thoughtful walk.

Hope he's ok. I'm taking one of my bikes for a service tomorrow so I'll remember to be extra-paranoid - I find it best to assume that everyone else is out to get me so that I'm ready when someone does something silly.
I've been looking forward to today all week, I was planning a nice, reasonably long run to Ironbridge and back (about 6 miles). I woke up with painful stomach cramps and I'm still feeling too drained to attempt it. It's a beautiful day for it too. I'm very disappointed - I was thinking of it as a sort of starting point for training for my half-marathon in October. Mind you, my right shin has been a bit sore for the past week so maybe an extra day of rest will stop me making it worse...
Hope your shin is better soon, it's very frustrating when you can't run.
I've been reading Jeff Galloway's Marathon book and I think he explains the importance of proper rest and recovery really well, you have to think of it as an essential part of your training - a positive contribution to your future fitness.
Oh poor you, hope the shin gets better very soon. Poor biker.
SFB, I have a bike, a classic 1981 Moto Guzzi which has been gathering dust in my garage for 3 years as I am such a fair weather biker I havent even got it serviced and mot'd for 3 years! Might sell it, between the requirements of keeping a dog and a running habit going plus no longer having anyone around to help me service/fix it (I am a dunce) I may as well hang up my (metaphorical) leathers!
I went for my gait analysis when my shin was at it`s worst and could hardly walk to the shop never mind run on the treadmill.
I used a foam roller on my calf 4 or 5 times a day for a couple of days and it disappeared thankfully. I had a cracker of a knot and the roller worked a treat.
