Week 3 Run 2- Soaked but did it.

Well last night was interesting. Due to unforseeable delays it was 10pm by the time I got out last night and raining heavily. So my first piddling down night time jog was interesting and I learnt a few things.

Shoelaces come undone much quicker in the wet, (even double knots)

Rain/waterproof coats and earphones do not mix,

Glasses steam up making it impossible to see

Its very dark with no streetlights

(blindingly obvious sorry but worse with after having to take the glasses off!)

But I actually enjoyed it (must be nuts). The rain distracted me from wondering how much further and the lack of vision was actually quite funny. As I'm self-concious I try to avoid meeting other people when running, but last night I nearly changed route to avoid the local 'yoof' who turned out to be a bush and street light :D

The new sports bra did its job but <ahem> I still seem to be in the habit of resting my very average chest on my arms to minimise joggling (another reason to avoid meeting people!). May account for the surprising arm toning effect jogging has had though. Perhaps I'll continue with it!

Haha well done! Good on you for braving the dark and rain and for continuing despite all the difficulties. :)

Nice arm toning exercise, I might have to try that myself ;)

Good luck for run number 3, hope it stops raining for you.

Well done for still going out.

I experienced the steaming up glasses effect on Tuesday. It made it "interesting" to say the least!

lol...I gave up wearing glasses when I run. They would either steam up or slide down my nose in the sweat. As long as I don't meet any lorries I'm fine.

You're made of the right stuff to go out there on a dark and rainy night. In addition to bushes that jump out, holes sometimes open in the ground for no apparent reason...keep a sharp eye out and stay safe.

Good running to you....

ChasingOwls,

A peaked cap might help with the rain on the specs, not sure how much help that will be with the steaming up though; obviously you run a bit hot like me, but I can just about get away with not wearing my glasses (I'm just a wee bit short-sighted). I quite like running in the rain as it keeps me cool!

Thanks guys.

Yes, I had a few miraculous pot holes appear- got a map of them in my head now and will pay more attention in the daytime. I thought I'd have a run and get over the night time nervousness ready for the autumn/winter! (creeping up too fast this year)

Good point about the cap, I'll pinch one of my husbands.

Love the name ChasingOwls, did you scare them all away last night I wonder!?! LOL at a wonderful new training session for arm toning, priceless.

I'm a specs wearer so ended up buying a cap, its a posh Go Faster stay cool Ronhill Runners Cap I'll have you all know and I've become so fond of it that I wear it if its raining or not. Well thats not quite true cos every run for the last 6 weeks has been wet!!! My hubby came into the kitchen this morning I was just finishing breakfast and he says "Oh are you not stopping then"? What do you mean says I. You still got your cap on was the reply, I forget its there, its so comfortable!! Or perhaps demention is setting in mmmmm!

On a serious note, stay safe when running in the dark ChasingOwls and be careful where you put your feet, it would be easy to trip in the dark. Take care and good luck with the rest of C25K

Ha, no, but my first run I spotted (and scared off) a barn owl which was lovely- never seen one so close. I will take care, off again for a run, hopefully by about 8 instead of 10 tonight.
