Let's find out if I can persevere this time.....

Well, here I go again.

I started this program in January 2011 - I was going really well - almost graduated - until one day I decided to go for a run through a local forest trail. Everything was going well, I was enjoying the country air, I'd even had the breath in my lungs to say good morning to a couple of elderly gentlemen out walking a dog - then it happened.

My argument with an upturned tree root...

Don't ask me how I managed to do it, but I somehow planted my left foot on this little beauty and the next thing I knew I was rolling around in the mud, after a somewhat theatrical "teeth meet turf" moment. When the disorientation cleared, I was aware of an unbelievable pain in my left ankle (not to mention the searing pain in my face!).

Very long story short time.

I hobbled the mile or so back to my parked car and DROVE home! Adrenaline was the source of my ability to drive. Called a friend. Went to hospital. Severe sprain (if I can get the technology to work, picture attached).

Here I am, some considerable time later with a fully fit ankle, and more round my waist than I would like - plenty to cuddle, but it just means I can't tell you whether or not my toe nails need cutting.

I'm gonna give it a go again. The hardest part? Getting out the door.....

Today is Week 1, Run 1....

Wish me luck friends

ow, ow, ow with a side serving of OW! All the best with this as you start off again. I bust my ankle falling down the stairs about 3 years ago now - similar looking to your pic at the time, and the paramedics (yes, I know,) thought I'd broken it as it was at such a funny angle, but it was 'just' a sprain. Stuffed up the walking holiday with my family in Ireland that year somewhat, but I can honestly say by going slowly and not pushing myself too far I've had no trouble with what historically has always been a weak ankle, even before I properly trashed it. I'm just about to start w8. Hang in there, and stick on this site - everyone is so supportive through the ups and downs. You'll get there!

Ooowww that looks terrible you poor jogger you. Good that your back with us though, all the best for your re-run. Tip for longer runs, get a loved one to cut your toe nails or your could end up suffering from black nails!! Not a pretty sight to behold in your summer sandals!! :)

That looks bad, glad to hear all is well now. Good luck. Like the Windymiller profile pic :-)

Ooh ow! I sprained my ankle really badly years ago (playing squash, of all things) and it bruised from my toes to my knee. It's still the weak link, but it hasn't been giving me any bother while I've been doing C25K and I should graduate on Friday.

Good luck starting again. And watch where you're going!

Can't bear to look at the picture! I sometimes run through a local forest trail and often wonder whether it is a good idea or not with all the stumps logs etc. That photo has put me right off!

It's great that you're giving this another go. Looking forward to reading your posts and good luck!

Ooh, that's nasty! A good reminder to take very good care with our footing (honestly, the pavements around here are treacherous enough, never mind tree roots). Best of luck to you - if you've done it once I'm sure you'll get back into it no bother.

Ooooouch. Made me shudder - two years ago I pulled the ligaments in my left ankle so badly that I broke it..... Since then I have been very careful about where I put my feet. It was so easily done - just went over on the side of my foot walking across a bit of rough ground walking the dogs. Like you I hobbled home and climbed up to a second floor flat!

As well as watching where I am walking it also taught me another lesson - take my phone with me at all times !!!!!!

Ouch ! Glad you're better - I'm sure you'll soon be back into the swing of things. Good luck with your first run.

Like BTX4, I always take my phone "just in case". Even when I'm running with the club, I like to have it with me, not just in case I hurt myself but in case anyone else does.

Oh no, how awful! I am sure you will be fine, just get out that door, avoid those tree roots and enjoy :-)
