Week 1 Run 1 - Done and dusted... almost!

Hello everyone! I’m an 18 year-old student who’s on my Summer holidays just now. I had a dramatic end to the year, being rushed to hospital to get my appendix out, but I’m almost back to normal now and keen to start running! I’ve been out of school for a year, and I used to despise PE because I felt that everyone was judging me on my ability. I’m hoping that this programme will help me overcome this phobia!

Anyway, I bought some new trainers this morning to set me off on the right foot (sorry!), and was desperate to give them a go this afternoon for the first time. I did the Wk1R1 tonight… and it wasn’t too horrific! My lungs felt like they were going to burst sometimes, but the brisk walks helped me calm down a bit. My Dad also came out with me, which made me feel better when people were watching. I think the setting also helped as well – we drove to the beachfront and ran along the path, which was nice and flat. I can see this being a regular spot for my running! Roll on Run 2 ?

Well done for getting out after the operation, and for dragging your dad out too (I've tried and failed to get my mum to try it.)

I've also always hated PE, but I find that I'm so concentrated on not giving up/dying, that you don't really think about people judging you! A lot of the people you'll meet are walking, anyway, so they'll never know how much walking/running you are doing :)

Your running locale sounds beautiful - hope it inspires you for the rest of the 9 weeks ;)

Thank you for the support! I'm sure I'm just being paranoid about other people watching me, but this will hopefully improve in time.

My Dad's been running for a few years so I've got some catching up to do! I'm sure he'll help keep me motivated over the 9 weeks when it gets a bit tougher :)
