W8R1 not good....

Well after writing a very positive blog at the end of week 6 it seems i've taken a downhill turn. I managed week 7 somehow and felt I should be able to add on another 3 mins, - wrong!!! Several factors could account for this. Firstly it was mid afternoon, much earlier than I usually run and although there wasa breeze, it was still hot and I was running into the wind most of the time. Secondly I had not long eaten, and thirdly I had chosen a new route. I chose this route as it is much flatter than my normal one so I thought this would help but it meant I had no landmarks to judge my times. Normally I can say to myself " when I get to the tree stump I will have gone for 5 mins, get myself up the hill by 12 1/2 mins" etc. This spurs me on as I can picture the route ahead but as this was not possible I could not set myself those short goals to keep passing, so will give myself a good two day break and return again now that I know roughly the timings. I had to stop running at 20 mins this time as I was almost tripping over my feet. I'm sure it's a mental thing but not sure how to overcome this. Laura kept saying that I should be in a good rythym and to try to up the pace at the end, so I felt quite deflated that I couldn't even finish let alone go faster.

So sorry to hear you had troubles. I agree with you about the change of course possibly being a factor....AND agree a couple day break won't hurt. Next time you go out that route won't be "new" anymore, but it will still be flat (lol). (Don't tell anyone, but I ran around my personal "hill" my last outing also, so I could stay on the flat too). Don't let it get you down, we all have "those days".
