It's been a stressful few days here in this Cornish household and I needed to burn off some fight or flight adrenaline...I went out tonight just needing to run/burn/get it out of my system. So, here's the thing, when you're wound up, you should just aim for that PB time!
I decided just before I pressed the timer start button to go for a sub 28 min 5k and although the last tenth of a mile was on a pig of a hill, I brought it in at 27min 54sec. (8.59 min miles) Got to the top of that hill, pressed the stop button on the Garmin, and leant on a wall until I stopped sounding like I was gasping my last breaths. I was still about .8 of a K away from home, so I jogged slowly home from there. You can see how much I slowed down going up that last hill by the split time at the end.
Lots of stretching after that speed workout I can tell you! Sweat literally dripping off me when I got in the door; but feel good, elated. Even an oldie can improve!

Very well done, it's truly inspirational to read everyone's blogs! I too am impressed with the info from your Garmin - do you have to wear a chest strap thingy? About to start W4 and am still indoors on a treadmill but am plucking up courage to venture outdoors...
I do have the Heart Rate Monitor (chest strap thingy) but I don't wear it very often. It came with the Garmin 110 deal. When you wear it, you get yet another graph to add to the elevation and speed/pace ones, and it is quite interesting to see it match the effort you are making and the hills you are running.
My best advice to you is to get off the treadmill and get outside...I was outside from the start and it is a totally different experience. Mind, this time of year, don't go out mid day if you can help it, it's too hot!
I like to run in the early morning, but it isn't too often I can get my weary old bones out so early before work, so I run in the evening, as soon as I get home from work, but before I've had my evening meal. If I'm really hungry I will grab a banana, sip some water to wash it down and get out the door!
fab time Carole! i am inspired by everyone running loads faster than me...i am determined to catch you all one day (may be a while yet though) so will keep plodding on
Thank you all; I'm still on a high after that time. Next target, sub 27min! Might take me a little while though. Going to work on hills and speed intervals. Got that Scottish 10k in August and hopefully the Truro Half in September (another hilly sod!).
I feel your pain - I was chewing my hubby's head down to the neck during two weeks off the roads with a knee injury after the Saltash half. Talk about withdrawal symptoms! It is true that we get addicted to this little game and if I don't get out at least three times a week I am grumpy as anything! He was glad when I was better!
