Treadmill runners I salute you

Decided to do R2 W8 on the treadmill at the gym. Although I’ve been going to the gym for about 10 months I’ve never used the treadmill, however since C25K told me I’m a runner when I completed week six I thought I’d try it. Took my time sorting it out and off I went.....at about halfway at a speed of 6.7 ( no idea but it felt about the speed I run outdoors at) I decided to measure my heart rate.....well some yellow thing next to the heart monitor was pressed by mistake and next thing I was running up something like the north face of the eiger. I had to pause the infernal machine to avoid being ejected from the moving belt, back to 1% incline with my heart rate through the roof! Added to thar the relentless pace, no being able to slow down without button pressing and no diatractions of dodging potholes, dogs, admiring the scenery in order to take my mind off my aching legs I’m filled with admiration for you treadmill runners out there.

LOL :-D there is a knack to it...get to know the machine is the first thing.....guessing the little thing was the incline button...you might find another button for speed !! now that is a so and so if you knock it by accident...0 to 10mph in seconds !!! having said that my most favourite for causing havoc is the emergency stop button...they put it right where my hands go back and forth when jogging, so I have to be very careful to keep my hands away from it otherwise I come to a very abrupt stop !!!. On the plus side its warm and dry....but the outside is definately a lot more interesting and healthier in good weather. :-)

I just hadn’t realised that there were extra incline and speed buttons right on the handles that you hold to check heart rate.....lesson learned now though 😂😂

Haha sounds exactly like me this morning! I put walking at 4.7 and running at 6.3 (7.7 at the last minute). Incredible amount of faffing with buttons.

Also dont try and look around, it’s dangerous!

Probably next time, I’ll get the hang of it more!

I don’t get on with treadmills either... I really don’t know how anyone can do long runs on them... kudos the them, and you for giving it a go.

At the Gym last week was a proper runner!! She was on the treadmill for ages, no headphones. I spoke to her when she stopped and she is a Marathon runner, she had run 7miles to the gym in crap weather done 12 miles on the Mill and was running back home!!! She doesn't use music cause she normally road runs and it's dangerous to road run with head phones in. The day I saw her was just a light training day !!!! I have no idea how she kept focused on the mill, it bores me to death even with music.

Sounds like she’s over running it if she’s training for a marathon then running 26 miles is a very bad idea. Of course home could have been a mile away I guess 😂

No idea how to stay focused for that long... a minute on the mill and I’m bored.

You need to press random buttons like I did! I put an incline of 3 at one point cos I was missing the hills!

I see... I used to do that... usually I hit the big red one that said stop as soon as possible.

Or wonder what that cord is for and pull it

It’s just a good job there wasn’t a “do not press button” youtu.be/O3WqBFPhdKM

By the way she was talking she's been running marathons for years, She also looks like she has.... not a pick of fat and legs of steel..... I'd like to say she was dripping sweat..... a slight sheen was as good as it got!!! Unlike me, who looks like a wet rag when I stop. 😩

Dry running? She needs to put some effort in 😂. Recovery and long runs should be run that way though... when she does speed work she will no doubt have rivers of sweat flowing!

It was that or not getting my run in, my normal track was covered in snow and probably wasn’t safe, but as it turned out neither was the treadmill 😂😂

Way to go on the treadmill Micey! You've summed up everything that would worry me about it! I managed w8R3 today. Found a good gap in the weather and also managed some good stretches of faster running. I'm finding I'm loads faster on hard ground than the beach but prefer dodging the impending sea at the beach and the fact that the dog can be off the lead. Sunday for week 9!

Great going Sophia, I think I prefer outside, not surprised you’re loads faster on hard ground you’ll have muscles of steel after running on sand, ha ha now I can hear the “chariots of fire” tune in my head . Good luck for week nine keep me posted
