Now that the warmer weather is here I am contemplating running in shorts. There seems to be two main types-loose baggy fit or short tight lycra ones. I love my running tights but wonder if even the shorter version might be very warm. I havn't run in hot weather before so I'd welcome any recommendations for ladies

A question of shorts
I know what you're saying avensis. The compression/lycra type shorts are bound to be warm, but I think it depends on whether you want to sacrifice "support comfort" for "cool comfort"! Being a "mature lady" I think I'd rather have the support, but if you are a younger runner, maybe you'd be happier with the cooler version.
I know I was glad of my over the knee capris when I went a**e over t*t the other day, they certainly saved some skin and blood!
I'm nipping down to the local running shop this weekend to check out what's on offer (need new running shoes anyhow) but I think it's going to be compression above cool for me I'm afraid. If you can find cheap versions you can always try out both??

I have bought some men's shorts from sport direct as I find even the baggy ladies ones too short and revealing. These have built in pants too and while they aren't the most flattering garments in the world they wash well, dry quickly and have zipped pockets.
Have a look at skorts too - they have some in TK Max or there is a good range of clothing on the achillesheel web site.
I actually just wear normal soft cotton ones from Sainsburys. They've got two for £10 at the moment.
I wear some knee length lyrca running ones and I ran out in the heat yesterday, because of the fabric they weren't too hot, the sweat could get out and kind of cooled on the outside.
I wear the loose baggy fit ones. I got them from JJB Sports and they don't seem too short, especially given I am quite tall. They come about halfway down my thighs I reckon? It is a little more than I like to show now I've had kids, but I am only 27 and I figure no one is going to get close enough to see all my thread veins! They are lovely and cool to run in.
I'm too scared to wear shorts, the baggy ones tend to ride up and the tight ones reveal too much :)) Capri legging thingys for me!
It took me long enough to be brave and put on running leggings and to be honest I like the feel of the support they give to the leg muscles. No shorts for me unless I'm on holiday.
I've got some combination shorts from Nike - lycra fitted ones underneath with short loose one's over the top. The lycra bit comes halfway down my thighs I suppose. I don't like my legs much but the shorts are comfy and hide the worst bits - I've decided to stop worrying what anyone else thinks, they should have better things to do than look at me !
Thank you everyone for your help. I'll hit the shops tomorrow. I think it's going to be comfort over style!
