Had gait analysis yesterday and was fitted with new trainers. My run yesterday (wk 7 R2) was definitely more comfortable. Although still had knee/shin pain at first, this subsided and my arches are so much better than after previous runs.
Completely recommend getting yourself kitted out with appropriate shoes.

Hear, hear!! Mine are super-comfy and having done a fair few km in them since, I don't anticipate EVER getting blisters or anything with them. Went to Runners Need and can highly recommend!!
my local authority (i am a member there) has a health and fitness day on tuesday. They have a free gait analysis as part of the day. I will certainly stopping by.
I currently have asics, something expensive and way too pink for my liking! But supportive and comfy. However I am curious and a bit keen to try the Nike free runs... I've heard some mixed testimonials. Besides they come in some gorgeous colours... And we know that really matters. Lol
the guy at Up & Running where we bought our trainers said he had stopped stocking Nike as they are not a good enough running shoe, much more fashion based these days. However i have to say running shoes are not the most attractive things!!
Having run for 6 months in relatively cheap trainers (Lidl) I decided to treat myself to gait analysis and "good" trainers. Good to get the gait analysis done-reassured me that I wasn't doing any damage nor needed my gait corrected. However I was very dissappointed that all the fancy trainers did not feel any different to my old ones. Very comfortable and nicer to look at but 2 weeks later I don't notice any difference in my running- comfort, speed, style, it's not any easier!
A friend runs marathons and had said to me when I started that expensive does not always mean better and directed me to look out for Lidl (and similar)'s promotions.
The gait analysis was £20 or free if you bought trainers so if anyone gets the opportunity of free analysis, go for it.
Lidl often have some great buys so you're probably right. I can't say my new trainers have made running any easier!!! just a little more comfortable
I think most places charge about £20 fro gait analysis if you don't buy trainers with them.
On the plus side, if you're running at or from home, there's no other expense in running - a new pair of trainers is probably only a couple of months of gym membership!
I bought my trainers from Up&Running too. I have pronation so my feet tend to slope inwards. My new trainers are specially for this type of running gait. They are far more comfortable than my last ones which regularly gave me 4 blisters! However when I went to the shop I had to run around the store with my trousers rolled up, unshaved legs on show and wearing my Christmas socks (it was April!). My advice would be a bit of grooming before you go!
