First day tomorrow.

Its my first day trying this tomorrow. So I have my ipod ready and running stuff ready. I am going to go for a morning session. I have not run for 2 years because I have been recovering from an illness, I used to run half Marathons, and even managed a full marathon once...I never thought I would be nervous of going for a run but I am nervous about trying this programme incase I cannot complete it and find it too difficult. Its very hard getting motivated after an illness, once you get stuck on the couch, it becomes difficult get off it!!

Fingers crossed this is a step towards health and fitness again!!

Hey Marianne - I'm sure you'll be fine, especially with your background. The great thing about this programme is that it really eases you into it (although for an unfit podge like me it didn't feel much like 'easing' at the time!!). I hope you manage to have a good look at all the inspirational blogs on here - so many folks have started literally from zero and have ended up able to run 30 mins - and what's more, bitten by the bug and keen to do more! All the best and do post back here how you get on.

If you follow the plan, slowly and steadily, you should be fine. Use the forums for support, we're quite a friendly bunch. I'm sure this will be the first step towards regaining your fitness. :)

You'll be fine, just take it easy. I'm a bit like you, I used to run long distances then had an injury and hadn't run in 18 months - its been tough building up again, I won't lie - and difficult mentally too - why can't I do this when I'd think nothing of running for an hour before type thing. Its ok though, just take it steady and repeat weeks if necessary and you'll be fine. Its amazing how fast you find your legs again. Just don't do what I've done and run at the same pace (pulled glutes and quad - owww)

I'm sure you'll be fine if you follow the programme - in fact with your previous experience you'll probably find it quite easy to start with. Everyone on here is really supportive of each other so do join in and let us know how you're getting on. Good luck x

welcome :) you have quite a running pedigree :) I'm sure your body will remember, slow and easy. Looking forward to reading your posts, we're a pretty lovely bunch of folks on here and we'll be around all the way. Once you've settled in, in a couple of weeks or so, I'd love to learn some training tips from you for approaching the longer distances :)

Definitely you will be able to do it, if you look around the blogs you will find loads of people who started out saying " I don't believe I can do this" and nine weeks later they are saying two things - one: " I don't believe I have done this" and two: "If I can do it anyone can".

Take it slowly and ease into the program, I am sure you will regain fitness again

Good luck, hope your first run goes really well :)
