week 5 run 2 done:)

finally got out to do run 2 of week 5 today, should have completed thursday but wasnt feeling to great, better to day but not 100% but determined to go as did not want to get to far behind the programme. Ventured out in BROAD DAY LIGHT, this is only my 2nd run where ive been out and proud in the light:) decided to go on different route today as old route had become to short plus with the light nights upon us i can now venture over the park. Was looking forward to this, was hopeful there would be less folks about to see me and running on grass will be better for my bad back and dodgy knees. Well wrong on both accounts due to the lovely weather, half of the population seemed to be over the park and although my back/knees may have enjoyed the softness of the grass i found it alot harder to run on. Anyways first 8 mins wasnt to bad, in my 5 min break realised i need to be taking water out with me with the warmer weather upon us wanted a drink so badly. Secoud 8 mins really tough, mainly i think down to the warmth, really made a differnece much prefer running in the cold! managed it though i really was on the verge of stopping! Hope its cooler monday when i attempt the dreaded 20mins!

  • Well done on getting this far you must be so chuffed. with the warmer weather with us make sure you drink plenty a few hours before you set off and also when you have finished. i try not to drink whilst runnng as i find it gives me a stitch and indegestion.

  • well done! I hear you on the running in the heat though, i really struggled on my 2nd 8 minutes, i just can't bear getting hot and bothered! will repeat w5r2 tomorrow late afternoon as i couldn't finish. Well done for going through to the end despite feeling hot and thirsty ;-)

  • Well done! I'm at the same stge as you and found there were far more people out and about in the sunshine too - much harder to go incognito. Early morning seems the best time for me with it not being too hot but still light and beautiful outside. I'm not looking forward to that 20 min run either, but as someone on here said to me - just go for it. It's not a race but we are getting fitter and there's no shame in having a go and repeating if necessary.

  • I'm at the same point too - did run 2 (wk 5) today. Shall try and do the third run either tues or weds after work!
