Silly Me. . . .

Last week I was running W7R2 when not getting new trainers caught up with me, I had painfull knees, ankles and right calf muscle. I was advised by a few of you to rest and to invest in a new pair of running shoes. I plucked up courage and got fitted for some (reasonably priced) new running shoes and rested. Today the sun was shining, all seemed well with the world so I decided that I would go and test my new shoes, to be on the safe side I went back a week and picked WK6R1 and set off with Laura on my 5min warm up walk. (I even remembered to try and do some stretches first as I'd been advised.) My ankles and knees felt ok and my right calf was tight but I thought it would sort itself out once I got going. I took it carefully and was feeling smug and self satisfied. Laura said "last run today" and although my calf felt as if it was about to get cramp I thought I'd get to the end. A big black cloud came along and the wind got up as I could see a hail storm approaching. I decided to speed up a bit and get to some shelter, BIG MISTAKE. I limped home cold and wet and now I still have a painful calf : ( Not sure how long would have been a sensible rest but before I started this C25K I would have found any excuse not to run and now I feel fed up that I'll have to miss a few days. It's a funny old world.

oh no. I hope it isnt too long before you can get out there again. Ive just had shoes fitted after running on a treadmill & now going outside & it has taken a couple of runs before new shoes felt ok. someone else mentioned using new muscles that you didnt use before because you are now landing correctly.

have you tried masaging your leg. sometimes I also get achey left calf muscle & a warm (not hot) soak in the bath & using some scratchy washmits with lots of bodywash & masaging hard with fingertips helps.

& running in the wet? was that a new experience for you?

Hi. Running's fairly new experience for me! I have been cycling but swapped for running during the icy weather as I'm now at that age when I probably won't bounce if I fall off.Running in the wet's ok I'd rather that than the gym. Soak in the bath sounds good I usually shower.

Oh nooooo, I do hope you will rest up (longer this time) and get your calf better, It took me a few runs to get used to my new trainers too and as for running in the rain, Am I mad for preferring it to running in the sun?!!!x

I've not run in the rain yet....freezing cold, wind, mild weather but not rain. I'm looking forward to sunny mornings

I've learnt my lesson. Thanks. Running along the road in the rain's ok so long as i can still see where i'm going. It's not so easy along the cliff path tho!
