ive had to stop running for a few days as my back and the outsides of my knees were aching and became rather stiff, think better trainers may help
ive read in a couple of threads about people g... - Couch to 5K
ive read in a couple of threads about people getting trainers custom made where can i get this done?
Not sure about custom made but certainly custom fitted there are a number of places where you can get gait analysis which is where they film your feet whilst you run and look at your geometry then help you choose the right pair of trainers for your running style and it really makes a difference it amazed me when I saw it being a general alround cynic about this kind of thing.
I get mine done at the Sweatshop, some of the Nike shops will do it (maybe not the factory outlet ones but Niketown or Covent Garden for sure if you are in London) or there a re a number of other running/sport outlets where you can get it checked out.
There is often a good listing in the back of Runners World or simila if you pick that up ever?
It is well worth every penny though.
dw sports. both of the shops near to me do the treadmill analysis so I would presume this is in most of the bigger stores.
just going to see the video is well worth a visit. it is amazing when they plot lines etc on the screen to show where you should be landing & compare your own trainers with the correct trainers.
thankyou, custom fitted is what i meant i think! dont really know what im talking about at the moment. I will check these places out thankyou, really enjoying the programme and dont wanna give up before ive really begun, i start week 3 tomorrow!
The other thing that may help is doing post-run stretches, they really do make a difference. You can find sets of stretches online. There is a great one for the back where you lie down on your back hugging your knees to your chest and then rock from side to side - it feels great!
thanks sarah, ive been trying to stretch but find i am really to stiff when i get back and dont seem to have any flexability if that makes sense to complete them properly. But i do what i can. Had abit of a back problem in the summer before i started jogging, think ive aggravated it.
It's the stiffness that means you need to stretch - a lot of the injuries you can get happen because of a lack of flexibility.
Have you thought about doing some strength/flexibility training to help your back? I do 30 mins or more most evenings on the rug in front of the TV. Some Pilates moves are safe for people with a back problem, certainly avoid going straight into doing crunches or situps though as they can aggravate back problems.
just to update you all, i rested for a week, ive sourced my nearest sweatshop and will be going as soon as i get paid! meanwhile ive put extra inner soles in my trainers in the hope that will help, lastly i have ordered a pilates dvd from amazon to complete on my days off running, so thankyou all once again for advice i listened! Ive just been and completed my first run for week 3, i completed full stretches before and after and am very please to report i did it fine, infact dare i say easier than the first two weeks, is that strange? My stamina appears to be building well its just my body flaking out on me!
