Week 6 run 3 - fail

Just got back from the worst ever run. Although I did run for 25 minutes it was by no means consecutive. After the first 10 minuets I had to stop, my heart was pounding so fast and I couldn’t carry on. I gave myself a two minute break and carried on. Again a few minuets later I had to stop yet again. This carried on for the remainder of the run (start/stopping), I was just completely out of energy.

I would say it’s because I gave blood yesterday, but I don’t want to make any excuses for what was a poor attempt. Really disappointed.

The only good thing that came of today’s run is I did run for 25 minutes I just had to keep pausing every time I stopped and walked.

To be honest with you Ginjaninja24 you should not have made any attempt to do any run after giving blood the previous day, give yourself a few days off running and run, run 3 of week 6 again, good luck. 👍 🏃🏾

I was under the impression from the advice given to me I only had to avoid exercise for rest of that day. This having been my first donation I didn’t know what to expect.

If you are going to run within 24 hours of giving blood, then you need to rest, drink plenty and dial the pace of your run right back.

It can take a couple of weeks for performance to return to peak, so give yourself a good long break and keep up the hydration before you try again.

I did make sure to drink lots today before running. More so than normal. But I think it must have just been too soon for me.

As I said it is reckoned to take up to three weeks to replenish your blood and you need that to transport oxygen, so at least it was a learning experience.

Honestly, don't let it get you down. Like the others have said, have a good couple of days off and see how you feel. In that time really take care of yourself. Try again in a few days and see how you feel then. Well done for getting out to give blood too.
