1st Parkrun done!

Well that was an experience, one I enjoyed once I got past the first lap or so.Picked a run close to where we go most weekends in Norfolk, picked Fleggburgh which is close to my beloved Norfolk broads, a 15 minute drive, so not too far.

Reading about it on the Parkrun website it states 'very flat' so that suits me fine.

Pre run talk, then off to the start. 9.00 and off we go, feeling a bit of trepidation as not run much off my treadmill but I am here and giving it a go. Quater of the way round I check my pace I have gone off like a steam train, faster than I have done ever on c25k or beyond c25k, this is not a race and I have no PB to beat so slow it down! Felt a bit better slower but that start had taken too much out of me and I was thinking maybe 2 laps of the three and quit! I didn't, had 4 small walks though, much needed. Carried on to the end, hoping for 40 minutes but came in at 36mins 16seconds, so very happy. Just for info the first person to finish came in at just over 19 minutes, it was his 116 Parkrun.

So all of you on your journey through c25k, keep it going, the sheer joy and happiness I am feeling right now is such a reward for all those weeks of training. The end goal is doable but only the beginning of the next journey. Today I ran the furthest I have ever run in my 56 years on this earth and everything and anything is possible. I have so much confidence in c25k and can vouch for the results, today has proved it.

So all you on c25k, keep it going, you are capable and you can achieve your goals, the reason you started this is not impossible to get to, just remember, as I was told today, this is not a race, and as you will be told on here, speed is not important. I have done it, so can you!

practically perfect especially given its different to treadmill running not least you don’t have to fight through folk….

I’d kill for 36 minutes so that’s a cracking start….

Very well done mate!! 100% agree with you. This is to be enjoyed and not a race. Speed is not important. I’m 52 and if someone would have told me 5 years ago a would be running like these days I would have laughed out incredulous.

This will change your life. Don’t give up it’s worth every single minute. ✌️🏃‍♂️😊

Congratulations on your first parkrun, I was thinking if you ever decide to run Gorleston or Lowestoft I'd run with you but I'd never keep up, that was a great first parkrun

It probably won't be that fast again, I went off way too fast, playing catch up by running slower if that makes sense. Someone told me Gorleston is run on a Sunday, but on the website it definitely states Saturday, do you know if it is a Sunday? Like the Pier Hotel there, good beer and cheap. Stayed there 3 times now.

Lowestoft I have looked at also, a bit closer to where I work, there is very little on the broads which surprises me, big area and park runs, Brundall, Lingwood or where I went today. Yarmouth is a killer apparently so going to avoid that for now.

Gorleston is run on Saturdays, junior parkrun is Sundays, I've been beach walking to get ready for GT Yarmouth, at the moment it'd take me well over an hour, the sand is so soft there. Both Yarmouth and Lowestoft are flat with slopes to the higher level, but both beautiful along the prom. I've been here since last may and am surprised all the time at all the wonderful things I find. Always loved Norfolk and feel privileged to live here.

Happy park running

Still buzzing, can't believe I have got to that level of fitness, we only had 41 parkrunners, but is is in the wilds of Norfolk. Going to have to wait 2 weeks now as I work every other Saturday unfortunately. 50 will be a while off yet.

There's no rush. It's taken me over 2 years to get this far. I'm just happy to be able to do it. 😊
