Parkrun 1 Done

I will start with an apology to all of those who will advise caution at what is still the beginning of my running career but... I completed my first parkrun today only 4 days after finishing C25k. It was forced on me as I wanted to run with my daughter and our schedules clashed until nearly Christmas. I will now promise to rest before resuming consolidation runs then moving onto the 10k schedule. Weather wasn't good, rain and wind off the sea, combined with, what I deemed Mount Everest half way round which reduced all answers to Tasha's conversation to hand signals for the remainder of the run, having 100's of people within touching distance, and waiting around after warm up walk made legs a bit iffy to start, so I did find it a bit more difficult but do I care now? Of course not! Chuffed of course!

Congratulations on completing your first parkrun despite the weather being wet and windy, next time you are at parkrun hopefully the weather will be better.

Lol, you could hire a big bulldozer to flatten that hill. 😀

Nothing to stop going along to a parkrun now and taking part ... who says you have to run all of it? You could do your W6R3 run there .

Yes despite the weather there were plenty of walkers and walk/runners 😀

Yes all way although verbal conversation dried up 😅 I'm sure you will, perseverance and listening to the advice here will see you through😀

it really makes me cross that people think they can’t go to parkrun unless they have completed and consolidated C25K, what utter nonsense!

There are no pre requisites to parkrun, as you saw lots of people walk, run/walk etc.,

Good on you! I hope you enjoyed it and will be back for more

It’s such a welcoming and friendly community, and probably as you saw - totally reliant on volunteers.

Well done you, 👏….I hope it’s the first of many 🏃🏼

In fact, they just had a blog post about how parkwalk is here to stay: blog.parkrun.com/uk/2022/10...

Very well done you... you had a super run with your daughter!

Some gentle exercise for those legs today and remember , what you thought was Everest yesterday, you will think of as mole hills in days to come:)

Thank you, I've been up there with a sledge hammer 😂

Ha ha... After I had been running for a while, I could simply not believe that what I used to think of as hills just were not!

healthunlocked.com/couchto5......

This was when I first began, 7 years ago, before I discovered that my best running is uphill! Little did I know that flat running was something I needed to get used to... The hill where I used to just warm up on the bottom bit, is my favourite, quick morning run warm up... ( I am off out there in a moment)!

As with hills of all types, physical and mental...the only way, really is, up!

Since my schedule seems to mess up my attendance at the actual parkrun in my area (so far at least) I decided to at least check out the route. And I've already noticed that the mountains are getting smaller - after only two runs!

I also did my first park run yesterday. I was quite nervous, not sure why really as it was just a 5k run, which I've done a few times on my normal shuffle from home. It was a bit harder as it's by the sea and quite a sandy route. There was a head wind on the home straight as well. The volunteers were so friendly, one lady in particular made me feel very welcome and put my nerves to rest. I'm also 67 and feel rather proud of myself. 1 down loads more to come I hope 👍

Well done, old man running! Like you, I've been wanting to give the park run a go after recently graduating but so far have failed to venture out of my shed! I think now I'm going to focus on consolidation during the winter having decided to treat myself to a new treadmill. Then I hope to join you and the guys out there in the spring! Just wanted to say though how much I admire you for joining your daughter out there with the "professionals"! 👍🏃

Congrats on your achievement, you must be very pleased with yourself, and I fully understand the overwhelm of 100’s of others and the hanging around - that’s what slightly puts me off!🤔
