Happy First of March everyone and for those folk with links to Wales....

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus … Happy St David's Day !

Well...you have guessed it.. here I am again. In the Catch Up- Corner, a tad earlier than usual and jumping for joy to be here with you,.

So this week... is the last Catch Up Corner for a while as it is of course tine for a Spring Clean ! Back when those April Showers and those April flowers arrive:)

So, just some thoughts as we head into the , hopefully brighter, longer , and lighter days.

Grab your cushion... get a snack and a delicious drink and rest awhile.

Okay,,, with my own running schedule, all over the place... this feels to me to be a good time, as I have noticed a fair few posts about, twinges, niggles and some injuries, that folk are experiencing. Noticing too , that life is impacting on folk too!

But...if you have not heard of the Strength and Flex Forum before... all will be revealed. If you have heard of it, because you have been there before, and are a Graduate or are repeating C25K, then it will certainly be worth taking another look around.

We have a great sister site right here... it is the Strength and Flex forum..

healthunlocked.com/strength...

It is all about the type of strength and stamina work, that we advise our runners to do alongside their running, it is one of our very own sister forums and it is brilliant... and if you have not visited it yet... you really should have! ( That includes all of us).

Great tips and advice for the strength and stamina work that many of us find so, so useful to do alongside our running.

Also great, if by some twist of fate you have an injury... the ideas for keeping up our strength and stamina in those times, are very useful.

The rest of our body really needs to keep up with our legs!

Many of us find this out, both when we are first setting out on our running adventures and then again, as the runs get longer, or if we have had to take time out.

So, on some of our rest days, non impact work is essential.

That is what the forum is all about... and you don't need a gym, or oodles of expensive equipment to be able to participate!

You just need, Yourself, some self discipline and a lot of enthusiasm .

So what I would really like you to do, is, to just think how important strength and stamina work is to you.

Listen to your body and note, any minor twinges, or persistent aches and pains... areas where you feel there is a need for some extra work.

Non-impact exercise on some of your rest days is essential, especially as the runs get longer, there is so, so much to choose from, and all of which can be done without the expense of a gym membership.

The longer and lighter days are going to give us much more of a chance to get out there... and we do want to be physically and mentally fit for them ! I know I will be upping my game a bit, S and F wise.. I am hoping to have a lot more adventures ahead as the better weather and a new ,( second-hand really), tin tent arrive !

Now. What about you?

Have you seen the S and F forum... have you visited, have you contributed or used exercise, found there...Has it impacted your running?

So many questions and so much to think about... so if you get chance, pop in and share... and if not... I will see you in April!

Will give that forum a look, definitely have to do something for my back. As I said in my post, not a strain but an ache. To think in 2 more runs I will Graduate for the second time. Roll on the park runs, looking forward to that.

Well done you! There is loads of support there , there is a super, Yoga with Adriene session for lower back... I can recommend that !

That graduation podium... mark two is waiting, as are we... and the park runs too. Meantime. Sit a while and rest that back... and thanks for popping in !

Your words “self discipline” jump out at me, - not always easy - but so good for keeping the niggles at bay.

I have made it back to W6 after a post surgery pause & determined not to be niggled out of my running shoes.

Hello and welcome!!! I wondered where you had got to !

It has been quite a while hasn't it ! But, alwyas a cushion here for you ! Gosh,, week 6 ! This is really great news to hear... so, so many of us returning to running after illness, injury or just the ups and downs of life issues! I am about to set out again to try to get back to where I wish to be!

It can be so hard when niggles or twinges, the terrible twins, start to pester us !

Please, do keep us posted on your progress, it really helps our forum friends to see just how this plan works., and how it can work for us more than once!

It is lovely to have you back with us x

Thank you 🤗

Go well picking up your running again OF & enjoy - it’s so satisfying getting back in those running shoes.

Mr E & I are off adventuring in NZ soon, so running shoes scrubbed, disinfected & in the suitcase. xx

Hi - you had me worried there for a moment with the post title. Have I just slept the month of March away? glad to say, not!

Been running three times a week and am steadily getting slower and slower, although I can now manage about 8k once a week. I think I’ll pause the distance and concentrate on improving my pace for a while, as I am now reluctant to even go to Parkrun any more due to only just beating the tail walkers!

I’m determined to get back to the S&F forum one day,I promise, as I’m sure that will do me good!

I was a month ahead... my birthday is on the 3rd... and even more worrying... I thought I was 76.... and I am only 75!!! I a a year younger than I thought!!!

Sit a while and thank you!

Slower and slower sounds good to me... I have not even run for an absolute age!!! I think you may be right...just run... gently and enjoyably... you may find that the pace improves with every run you take, I think if I can just get out there... it will all start to evolve !

As we know. the runs wait and they don't seem to mind, whether we are faster or slower ....thank you so much for making me read my title a little more carefully and for popping in!x
