Wk4 run2 - slow and steady wins the race!

Hello all!

I’m so glad to be back here! I’ve an ex couch to 5k graduater from years ago (7 to be exact).

i realised today that I’ve definitely been running to fast.

I went for a run the other day (when it was sooo windy which didn’t help) and felt like I was going to die. I was about to give up and go home.

Started out today and decided to go slowly. And then even slower still. I was more or less going at walking pace and it was soooo much more manageable.

I was dreading todays run after the last one but now feeling a lot more positive :-)

Also booked myself to get some new running shoes. I’m going to one of those places where they will watch me on a treadmill. My other shoes (which to be fair are about 7 years old) have got holes where my big toe is. Anyone know why and how to prevent this with my new shoes (when I get them)? Could it be from friction with my toenail? My toenails aren’t even long….haha.

Going slow is the best way, it's the difference between ending up feeling like a washed out failure rather than the energetic, high achieving athlete you know you are :)

Your new shoes should really help. I find mine lose their bounce and need replacing before the toes wear out. Maybe the running shop can advise how to avoid them? You can actually buy a repair kit if you do get holes - CBDB had a post about this a while back that you might want to have a look at.

Failing that, keep your big toenails short 😂

All good things: Going slow (and even slower) and also new shoes! Both can make all the difference.

Do keep us posted.

welcome back Be-yourself ..we like it when we welcome past graduates back into the flock!!

starting a run fast is def not the way forward, as you have now found out…you’re over before the run!!! Glad that you e now, hopefully, found your steady pace…slow and slower..that often means further…

Well done for getting a gait analysis, I’m sure you’ll find that this will help with your running too, not sure on the hole at the front though, if it’s not your toenail it must just be a sticky up big toe??!! 🤣 maybe worth an ask when you get your analysis done?

Not what you're looking for?
