Week Seven, Run Two

Covered 25 minutes but hadn't quite hit 3k so kept on for a whole 19 seconds more !

Bit slower today but my head was in a better place and didn't try and talk me out of going, so that's good.

Plus I've just got home and it's immediately started raining - so perfect timing.

Last run of W7 on Saturday. See you all (remotely) then !

it’s amazing how your mind can give you negatives i got that this morning around 2 mins into the run, firstly it was raining not hard but enough to give me a soaking, I had a waterproof jacket on and I really started to get hot, my forehead was sweating up. In my head it was “your only 2 mins in your hot , your feet are wet, your having to carry your jacket just try again tomorrow etc. Other things were doing through my head as well at the same time giving me a negative opinion of today’s run. But I just let me legs go through the 25 mins. I thought if you stop you will be down because in all these runs you haven’t stopped yet once. I kept going but like you it’s so up and down. When Steve Cram came in with 60 seconds left I increased the pace from 6.20 per km to 6.00 per km and I felt better for it. I really would of been peeved if I had of given in!. It’s amazing how your impression of your legs condition affects you at the runs commencement, it’s exactly the same for me I think oh you don’t feel that good today do you , it’s going to be a struggle. It’s mind over matter for sure .

I still think im going to fast but its in me now I did just under 4km in 25 mins , I tried slowing down but it just isn’t happening for me . Slowing doen makes it more difficult for my running style .

So long as the pace you are going at is comfortable for you I would say fine don't worry about slowing down - we are all different - the important thing though is getting it done so don't sacrifice that for pace!! Slow for one is fast for another etc 😃 - I used to hate running in the rain now I try to avoid it but don't mind it 😃

Thank you , appreciated. I tried running with waterproof on and Nike armband for first time , hated armband took that off and my coat and continued running without stopping bit annoying doing all this while moving !! better prepared next time - no armband , no waterproof no matter what -

Sounds like you may be meeting the Toxic 10 Gentlydoesnt . This describes the first 10 minutes of a run, when your body adjusts from not running to running. It's definitely the hardest part of most runs and afflicts many of us. The number of times I've set off thinking 'I can't/don't want to do this' but after about 10 minutes I'm having the time of my life :)

Next time you run and don't feel like it, start by congratulating yourself on making the effort, then tell yourself that the discomfort/gremlins are purely physical and will pass very soon. By the time you do all this you should be through the 10 and feeling better :)

Then congratulate yourself again for being such a good runner :) :)

That's a super pace, Gentlydoesnt and it obviously suits you. Well done for beating those gremlins

Could I ask now that your on the more predictable runs or 25 regular mins etc do you bother taking the app out with you or do you use a watch , I do appreciate Steve Crams encouragement

App all the way to the finish line! I owe it to Sarah Millican who has kept me going to see it to the end 😉

Well done MB - excellent rain dodging 😀 I hope those extra 19s don't come back to bite you 😉I think we all suffer from numeric OCD when it comes to minutes or km 😃

🍏🎈🤗 and the girl did it!!!! So well done to you! Looking forward for Saturday! As Yesletsgo has wisely said take the first 10 mins easily as your body transitions from the warm up walk into the run.. you are doing brilliantly! Xx

Lucky you MB, got that run completed just before the rain started, well done on running run 2 of week 7, another 25 minute run, don't worry about the time it took you, onwards and upwards to run 3 on Saturday which could be run in gale force winds according to the weather forecast.

The toxic 10. Yep I now know all about that. But I have a cunning plan and it’s working. Well so far anyway. Now that I am towards the end of the program I am fitter and stronger. Both mentally and physically. As a result I have more energy. So I have increased the intensity of my warm up to eradicate or reduce the toxic 10 effects before I start my run. My warm up now takes 15-20 minutes and gets me up to run mode. I do feel quite tired for the last five minutes or so. Then I slow right down. Seems to be working.

Well done you. It's weird how we like whole numbers - it's like filling up your car with petrol and having to stop on a whole number (if I'm a few pence over I'll sometimes just push on up to the next whole number!)

Great running - good luck for tomorrow.
