just completed w9r2 ! A bit slower and not as far in distance than w9r1. Did 4.2km on run today including walks. I had a gap of 2 days, maybe I need another day to recover. I’m 65 and feel accomplished when I’ve done each run. Just want to go a bit more distance.
week 9 run2 : just completed w9r2 ! A bit slower... - Couch to 5K
week 9 run2
You are so nearly there!
Speaking as a woman over 65 I'm a bit of a fan of having an extra rest day if you feel you need it.
Regarding the distance you cover, not many of us can actually do 5km in 30 minutes, so if you feel that you're falling short because of this don't worry. How fast we can run depends on a lot of things - sex, age, height, weight, fitness, health, as well as external factors such as the surface we run on. As women over 60 we'll never be as fast as those tall young men we see sprinting along without a care in the world
There are many measures of success, and the fact that you can run for 30 minutes is a HUGE achievement. By the end of this week you'll have managed it 3 times. I bet that when you first looked at what the C35K program looks like you found that really daunting. Look at how far you've come!
Once you graduate you can work on increasing your distance. The key is gentle progression, not trying to go too far and too fast which with our vulnerable older bodies can lead to injuries which are no fun at all. I speak from experience, having got totally carried away on my first Parkrun and subsequently had to take 6 weeks off (and I was only 63 then 😂)
Enjoy the final C25K run, you are doing brilliantly!
I always feel good when I’m out running and see the younger people running. Always say hello to them and they are always friendly.
At the end of the day we are all just runners and I think there's a recognition of that. The people who finish at the end of Parkrun get huge cheers. I did a 10k and only 4 or 5 people finished after me but everyone was lovely.
Taking part is the most important thing
🍏 you are doing brilliantly. Distance will come gradually but don’t rush it!! You want to strengthen those legs & lungs & not incur injuries in the process. 1 more run 👏 xx
🍏 Yes that video was a lifesaver to me in my early days of running. Xx
