Wow - including warm up and cool down, managed around 6km this morning in the 38 minutes. Things I learnt today:
1) Skin is waterproof
2) Dress for temperature, not the damp (jacket left at home - shorts and short sleeve tech top)
3) Run in the puddles (it was a reward for my feet)
4) People think you are crazy running in the pouring rain
5) You'll feel awesome when you hit the shower at the end of it!
Absolutely loved my run today - it was my best pace, the "coolest run" to date and for a few moments I think I hit that "zone" where I forgot about my legs, had a smile on my face and welcomed the rain keeping me cool...
I quite like running in the drizzle too, never thought I'd hear myself saying that but it's so cooling. It started spitting just as I began my run yesterday and I welcomed it. Just got back though before the heavens opened and it poured. I had left my jacket at home and had no hat on. If it's heavy rain and you have no hat it's difficult to see
Perfect running weather is drizzle I reckon! I did the Manchester 10k, waaay too many years ago to mention, now! But it was a HOT day, so they had these shower tunnels you could run through now and again to cool down.... frickin amazing.
thats a great time, think you will have no problems with your last few runs! i've just been out in the rain too, after reading your 5 pointers and another post from folliegirl, i ventured out! agree with you, especially the wearing of short sleeves, and people thinking you're mad!
Woooooow that sounds amazing!! I might have to give that a go, can't beat a bit of summer rain but never ran it bring on the rain!!! X
Well done on getting past W8R2 - graduation looms ever closer. I've never really run in the rain - light drizzle and wearing waterproofs but think I might give it a proper try now that the weather is so mild. Good luck with the last run of week 8 and best wishes.
Thanks everyone! The programme and this forum really push me on! Happy running - rain or shine!
Well done! What a great distance in a great time! I wholeheartedly agree with you about running in the rain. I love it. Really refreshing and enjoyable and yes, I do rather like the puzzled looks from people who are wearing big coats and carrying umbrellas. Always makes me smile. When I started C25K, (in week five now) my early morning runs were accompanied by that smog/mist we had for a while, and rain. It can be like that every single morning as far as I'm concerned. Keep up the good work!
I'm getting more accustomed to the weather now and have toughened up. I used to be a hot house flower and have surprised myself. I always feel too warm in the house now as well. I wonder if our body thermostat changes once we become regular runners.
