After a holiday break, followed by intense couple of weeks at home and work with additional short trip abroad, I got shingles ... Well, I spent 2 weeks lying on my belly, 1 week of slow recovery, and I am trialling back some exercises. Still weak, my body aching. When I exercise, I can believe that my body aches from it rather than age or illness 😅

The first run after a break was delayed and delayed, and I promised myself I'll do ot this week, so it was my last chance to keep my word.

In the morning, aching, warming up I didn't know if I manage to do it all. But I was going out for a dog walk anyway, and I have already put my running clothes on, so it was only to go out and see what will happen. My breathing was uneven for the first two runs, well every run, but particularly distractingly uneven during the first two runs. Then it kind of went ok, while I was focusing on my equally distracted dog (by scents, not my breathing). I had one nice run when I feel like I am actually all right. As some emotions were raging under my skin, my last run was actually a run rather than slow and steady shuffle. I needed to get out of my head. My dog was surprised and didn't know what to do, as I had to pull her few times, even though she is much faster and fitter than me!

Depending on recovery, I will either repeat the run, or go to week 3, as I feel I can do ot without a strain, and if it occurs too much, I can always drop back to week 2.

Enjoy your Sunday!

If you're recovering from an illness it's usually a good idea not to push yourself too hard too soon. You've done C25K before, so you're well aware of the build up of effort involved. You are the best person to judge how the progression through the weeks is affecting you.

C25K is about gradually pushing yourself to go further and for longer, as you know you need to be comfortable with each step before you move forward. If you hadn't done it before I'd be strongly suggesting not skipping forward too quickly but you are better placed to judge what's right for you. Like you say, if you find Week 3 too much too soon you can always do less.

Good luck and I hope you continue getting better :)

Thank you 🤗 Today I did week 3 run, and I think this is my place. So next run will be week 3 run 2, and I will go from there :)

well done IgaT …sounds like, in there somewhere, you needed this run….and you kept going, even with the distraction of your breathing, I know how off putting that can be…be kind to yourself and listen to your body…you will know what’s best x

Aww 🥰 thanks 😁 Maybe running is not my life activity, but couch to 5k is definitely something that I find good for me, it rebuilds my stamina :) Let's see how it will go this time round :D

I'm sorry to hear about your illness and rough recovery! It's great that you got back to your running. But do take it easy and listen to your body. You'll know if you are ready to move on of if repeating a run or a week might be a good idea.

Keep us posted.
