Week 5 Run 3 !

I am a first time runner at 50 and had to stop at 18 minutes in this run - I feel a bit gutted but couldn’t push myself any further felt out of breath. I think the nerves about running for 20mins got to me ! I have been reading some threads here so will slow down (I felt I was going pretty slow) and will repeat week 5 and change the route. Thanks for the tips here and wish me luck 🍀

Don’t lose heart! Everyone has a bad run at some point where things don’t quite go as planned. It’s actually a great lesson to pick yourself up and get back to it, which it sounds like you have already done 😊

If you can run 18mins then 20mins is in the bag - good luck and trust the programme - it works 😊

I agree with everythin said. I think the issue may be more mind than body. As said, slow down if necessary, but tell yourself you can do another 30 secs, then another 30secs, whatever you need to do to gef you through.

As said it is a good lesson to learn. I hit the wall after graduating. Suddenly I couldnt finish 30 min run, even though I vad done so previously. Nothing physical, purely in my head. Once I worked that out I got over it. My trick in that insrance waz to remind myself if I stopped running I would still have to walk home, and I would get there a lot quick jf I just kept running, however slow.

This run is definitely a mental battle! But also - if you were out of breath you were almost certainly going too fast. As others have said, it really doesn’t matter how slow you run. It’s ’easy conversational pace ‘ you’re aiming for. Speed can come later (if you want it to!)

You already know you can do 18 minutes. That was your practice run. When you do it for real you’ll know to slow down and you’ll do that 20 minutes and feel like you’ve conquered Everest!

You can do it! You're just two minutes away from finishing! As someone said, take that as a practice run. And someone else said it's a mental thing. "Surely for someone only being able to run 1 minute five weeks ago, I can't do 20". But you can!!

Not what you're looking for?
