Over the last week or so I've been re-introducing running and leg exercises in the gym following my knee issue a couple of months ago now.
Last night at the gym I did 4 sets of 10 leg extensions with a reasonably low 32.5 and 37.5kg (2 sets of each), 4 sets of 10 leg curls with 37.5 (1 set) and 42.5kg; I then followed this up with 3 sets of 10 leg press with a total of 100kg of plates loaded.
Everything was fine and I felt I could have pushed it a more if I wanted to, I'm being sensible remember.
This morning I was planning on doing week 5 run 2, 2x 8 minute runs and continuing to build up both strength and fitness again BUT, I opted for run 3 instead.
The longest I've run in the last 2 months has been for 3x 5 minutes in week 5 run 1 and I was hoping I wasn't going to push things too far but there was this itch I really needed to scratch and running for 8 minutes didn't seem to have the same kind of draw to reach it.
I set off and the first 5 minutes were fine, overall the entire run was fine, my breathing was a little all over the place at times, causing a slightly higher HR but I've not really run as I said above.
I did have a couple of times in the run when the gremlins were climbing up my back, telling me I was overreaching and had to stop because I wasn't fit enough, etc, so I giggled a little and carried on.
Will I be jumping straight back to Week 8 where I was? No, I may start week 6 on Monday and pick up from there.
Happy running everyone.
