Well week 7 is done, I am so chuffed and surprised to be writing this! Runs 1 and 2 were both done on holiday in Malaga. It was lovely jogging along the seafront first thing in the morning. I just completed run 3 after flying home yesterday. It took an age to drag myself out in the drizzle but I found I enjoyed it once underway.
I'm fancying giving parkrun a bash next. I know week 8 runs are 28 minutes and I am highly unlikely to manage the 5k in that time. The course is very flat so there is little risk of injury. I think it will be so much fun to do!

Parkrun is truly about taking part. There's no pressure at all to complete the 5k in a certain time, let alone 30 minutes. I'll make a suggestion. Do your 5 minutes warm up at the start of the run. Ok, lots of people will have set off really quickly but IT DOESN'T MATTER. They are doing their run, you do yours.
After 5 minutes start on your 28 minute run. Once you've run for that long go back to walking if you haven't reached the end of the course.
Parkrun isn't a race. If you get too carried away by the competitive spirit at this early stage of your running (like I did) you are putting yourself at higher risk of injury.
I'm sure you'll have a great time, just don't overdo it 😁
What a great suggestion that is, thank you so much! I view myself as a plodder rather than a runner or a jogger so I promise not to get all competitive and do myself a mischief.
Bear in mind that an awful lot of us can't get anywhere near 5k in 30 minutes, it's about how long you run, not how far. If you look on your local Parkrun website you can see how long it takes other people to complete the course (click the Results tab). The chances are that quite a few will take a lot longer than 38 minutes to complete the course. Enjoy your run and let us know how you get on 😁
