Hello I’m looking for some advice about when to start C25K after a hip replacement. I’m desperate to start running again - had to give it up about a year ago first of all to care for my husband and then because of a hip replacement - but don’t want to do any damage to myself.
I’m thinking that it might make sense to start once I’m comfortable with a brisk 30 minute walk but would love an opinion from this forum as I know I’ll get lots of good advice.
Just to also say that I am diligent about doing strengthening exercises and will continue to be mostly because I’m lucky enough to really enjoy weight training.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Were you given any advice after the operation or after follow up physio? Friend who has had both hips replaced was told she should get on with life doing all activities (but that must surely be tempered with caution and sense, my thoughts not the medical advice).
Subject to that medical advice, when you are good for 30 minute walks maybe you could try adding in some brisk pace walking and build up to a longer time then some exploratory very short run sections on good terrain and in good conditions That could build up to starting C25k in a very gradual and non over taxing way.
I have not had a hip replacement and I’m not a medically qualified person so please find out more as relevant to your particular situation.
Good luck and best wishes. Please report back as my friend would love to do C25k but is nervous .
The physio advice I was given concentrated on the exercises to do during the critical first 6 weeks and then on the next 3 months. For the longer term they just tell you not to do anything too strenuous but this includes not carrying any weight more than 14 k which I know is a silly restriction for me as I use heavier weights than this in weight training. So I’m treating the advice as lowest common denominator which of course they have to provide.
What you suggest makes sense and I will certainly not even start C25K until I’m properly comfortable with 30 minutes of brisk walking.
And will report back on my progress as soon as I get started. It won’t be for a few weeks though as I can do 30 minutes now but am still walking slowly.
