Some weeks ago I posted I was going to attempt C2-5k for the third time. Previous 2 successful but I never got to 5k
This time it follows major surgery on my right leg in March. Femoral bypass due to blocked arteries.
On review with the consultant, I asked if I would be able to do C2-5k, he said, "If you do it will be a bloomin' miracle"
Well today we had a bloomin' miracle!!
I skipped week 8 and went direct to 30 mins as I had already done 30 mins in earlier runs. Today in run 3 I decided to just keep going and see what happened, so after 30 mins I felt ok, and just kept plodding and plodding, checked my tracker a few times and began to believe I could do this!
To qualify, my pace is very very slow, sort of Japanese jogging shuffle, I get a lot of funny looks but f**k em'. I am 67 had major surgery and if I can still do this....
Actual 'running' time was just under an hour, but I don't care, I did it.
I should also add the surgery was only partially successful, I still have restrictions in blood flow to both legs, which results in claudication pain in both calves after around 500m, but it stabilises and does not get worse with distance, just a constant but tolerable nag, like cramp.
I can't wait to see my consultant on 15th September and give him the good news. He probably set me the challenge knowing I would pick up the gauntlet.
But right now I feel right chuffed, and just a little bit smug 😊
