Miracles can happen (if you make them)

Some weeks ago I posted this below. I have now completed, W7 R2 and twice exceeded the 'run' up to 30 mins. Don't get me wrong, it is very uncomfortable, but if you are determined enough, and ok in the knowledge that going slow will get me there, I will complete this.

I can't believe I'm doing this...

I completed C25k twice before, then laid of due to a gradual decline in health, vascular disease in the legs. I have type 2 diabetes and was in the past a prolific smoker and drinker. Now paying the price. I haven't smoked for many years, but still enjoy a pint, can't live like a monk all the time?

I'm 67 but still have a desire to be active, love cycling and getting outdoors.

I won't bore with the details, but recent decline in my condition resulted in foot complications due to lack of blood supply. This resulted in a bypass operation in March to restore the blood flow. The bypass was from the top of my right leg to mid calf. The artery was blocked, so basically they took a vein from the same leg and replaced the artery. It all healed well, except a few weeks later a scan revealed the graft had narrowed. They performed an angioplasty (in through the groin, insert a balloon, inflate to stretch the narrow bit, deflate and pull it out. All good!

Amazing what they can do these days.

The prognosis is unclear, the graft has a lifetime (unknown), walking is good.

When asking the question will I be able to run again? the answer is "look, we saved your toe, foot, leg so far, anything else is a bonus"!

So... I decided to push things, so far I managed week 1 and today run 1 week 2. I feel ok so far, some discomfort in the left calf muscle (which I also know has restricted blood flow) but right leg ok. Its manageable.

I don't know how far I'm going to get with this, I really don't expect to complete but It will be interesting. My consultant said "It will be a bloomin' miracle" Let's see.....

Interesting post from you Kinyeo, I wish you well regarding your health, as far as your running, take all the runs particularly slowly, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, no pushing things too far, good luck.

Thanks Al, good advice. If I go any slower I'll be standing still!

I'm not sure how to update on my post, so will try just 'replying' to myself. I did wk 2 run 1 today, and so far not a problem. Very slow shuffle in the 'running' bits. Still have some discomfort in both calves now, but given my condition that's to be expected I think. Still got the consultants words in focus, and a belief that miracles do happen! (but only if you make them...)
